Reflections for Police Officer Terry McDowell

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, fellow officers and community.

Patrol Officer, Tom Furrer
Lacey Police Department, Washington State

I would like the family of officer McDowell to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of mourning. It was not to long ago that I buried my close friend Brian Strouse who was a Chicago Police Officer. The respect and admiration that Police officers deserve cannot be put into words. I would like to Thank officer Mcdowell for keeping the city safe for myself, wife, and two little boys. Officer McDowell may you rest in peace.

God Bless!

To the family of Officer McDowell

My family and I would like to say how sorry we are to hear of your loss. We have walked where you are walking right now and know how much you are hurting. Every day that we came to this page and saw all the wonderful support of the Law Enforcement family we became encouraged.
So today it is our turn to try to encourage you. This walk is difficult but not impossible with the support of others.
The Law Enforcement family is truly amazing and the Concerns of Police Survivors are so terrific. Please use those that are reaching out to you, they really will support you and you family. We will pray every day for your wisdom and strength.
From all that we have read here on Terrys page he must have been a great man, how wonderful to have had in him your lives. He will continue to live on in all of you in a way that is so special. Hang in there you WILL make it!!

A very large THANK YOU to all those who serve and protect, and to all those that love one who serves and protects!

Terry, for the last eight days I have thought of the many days and nights I have spent working with you on second shift for the last eight years. During that time you have become a great friend. As the best man at my wedding you stood by my side. As god father to my son you treated him as one of your own. So when you died you took a part of me with you. But as you entered Heaven God sent some of you back down to me. I know you will always be with me as I work the same neighborhoods that we shared for years. Your family misses you dearly and will never forget what a good hearted person you are. Practice up because some day I will see you again.
I love you and miss you as do your family and friends.

To Officer McDowell's family and friends I hope the best to you in this unpleasant time.

Im from Canada and I hear of these types of stories in the paper and on the news. They seem to happen more in the US, than up here. However, we all face the same type of people in this job. But, I've never seen or heard of anything more cowardly than this.

This message is for all who carry the badge and have walked a beat in the mean streets of the your respective cities. No matter how minor an incident may seem to you, be aware that the person you are dealing with may not feel the same way. So for all my brothers and sisters out there, keep your head up and always go home safely!!

Rest in peace!!

Constable Dan Simmonds
Peel Regional Police, Ontario, Canada

Terry was a good friend, subordinate and Honor Guard member. I saw in Terry, a promising supervisor one day in the future, but that day will never come now.

It breaks my heart to see that Honor Guard with a missing man formation........

I will miss him forever............

Sergeant Gary Snider
Whitehall Police Department

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It Happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, and gave us his all,
and a part of America died."

I pray for the family of Officer McDowell. This a terrible loss for the family as well as the community. However, we are blessed to know that through our faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that we will all someday be with Officer McDowell. Although it seems like a long time until that day will arrive, when it is upon us it will be forever.

May God grant your family and co-workers peace as they struggle to find the answers that will not come. You did your duty, you did not shy away from your responsibility to "Serve and Protect", you gave your life in the protection of others. May you rest in peace, Brother in Blue.

I planned on attending your funeral today, but I regretfully was unable to. I was forced to work overtime cleaning up after another senseless, violent crime. I was there in spirit, though.

The weight of your badge has been lifted from your chest, but that weight has been added to the hearts of all of your Brothers and Sisters. We will all miss you. Whether we knew you or not, we will miss you. What good can come from the death of a Brother? Only the strengthening of the Brotherhood.

Officer McDowell, please tell the rest of our fallen comrades how much we miss them and know how much we'll miss you. Your new Chief will protect you. On your new beat there will be no violence, no hatred. Walk it proudly, for your time in Hell is through.

May God be with Officer McDowell's family, his friends, the Whitehall Police Department and all who wear the badge and put their lives on the line every day.

To Officer McDowell's family -- be strong in this time of pain, if you need strength the Blue Line is there for you.

With my deepest condolences,

A Brother
