To the family and loved ones of Senior Deouty Michael Benjamin Meyer and his fellow officers with the Yuma County Sheriff's Department:

On this the fifth anniversary week of Mike's tragic death, I wanted to honor and remember him today. Although I never had the privilege of meeting Mike, I feel as if I know him through the loving reflections left by loved ones and friends. Mike's valor and courage will never be forgotten. I also salute his service to our country as a Marine.
Semper Fi.

My son Larry was Mike's brother in green as well as blue/tan. I know all those Marines are keepng things squared away.

I hope that God is holding Mike in the sweetest part of his heart and the most gentle part of his soul.

I am so sorry that Mike was robbed of his life so tragically, but through his heroism and the profound sense of duty with which he lived his life, he made an immeasurable difference. May his spirit continue to soar and may his memory continue to inspire.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Mike gave to his community and the citizens of Arizona, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on August 13, 2001.

Mike, tonight we honor your service and memory with a ceremony at the Crossing Park. I know you are still watching all of us and keeping us safe. We know this because we get into some things that could be final, but somehow we make it through. That is because you are watching out for us, guiding us. Thanks for that. We miss you, Bro. Mike my friend, It has been 3 years since that fatefull day. 3 years of toil and strife. Your advice and Gung Ho attitude are sorely missed. We have all carried the flag on and did our duty. Take care of the boys upstairs my friend, we will take care of the boys down here.

Mike, just wanted to say "hello" and "Semper Fi". I was thinking about the time you had to drive to Wellton from the Lake to do an Intox test after having a minor boat incident on the lake. You had stopped a boat for a violation and your patrol boat had bumped into the guys boat. He made a "production" of it and demanded an accident report. Once you were done, you called me and asked if I could administer the Intox for you so you could end your shift and go home. If I remember right, the one in the jail was not working at the time. I know you weren't too happy about driving all the way to Wellton, or the whole thing but you handled it as you always did. Thought I'd say hello and drop you a line.

Well Mike, like Ruben said, I'm not sure you're checking your emails...but I'm leaving you a message anyway.
I recently took a trip to Parker and for the first time, saw your cross on Highway 95. I just had to turn around and stop there for a few. Well, I just wanted to say hey and let you know I miss you.

Well I'm not so sure that you surf the net and read e-mails now Mike, but with God all things are possible... So here goes,
I can't say the exact date I met Mike, but I can say there came came a point in our relationship that everytime Mike heard me out along the river he would call me on the radio to see if I needed assistance, or to pass on some intel. It was hard not to point my 4X4 his direction also when I heard him working in "my" area, which was coincidently also "his" area. That was okay because in "our" area besides us, there never was much back-up to be had, and if it needed to be "had", having "P-78" roll for you was the best you were going to get. We built a friendship that I only resent I didn't put more effort into (you know the saying, "you don't really miss someone until they're gone"). I had the opportunity to have Mike in my EMS 1st Responder class for a week in 2001 and that was a good memory, and I also got to serve some warrants with him once. Being from another agency, getting to work around him that much was a pleasure. The day I heard he crashed out on US 95, I was in shock. The day we attended his funeral...well Barry summed that day up pretty well already I think. I think of Mike, everytime I drive down Mittry Lake road (we worked a couple of incidents together there). I often remember his face and hear his voice, whether serious, or laughing, always with a look of confidence. I almost feel selfish having these thoughts, because I know he had much closer and dearer friends. So for all of you, I'm sorry. To his wife and family, I'm so sorry. I can only imagine that he was too good for us here, and God needed him right away. Yeah, that's it. So I'd like to take the chance now to thank God for letting him be a part of my life while he was here. I still miss him.

Mike, we were talking about you today. It does not seem like it was that long ago when you left us. I was telling the story of how I ran out of gas up on Hwy95 at the multiple 963 and you went all the way to the lake and brought me gas back. You are missed every day, Mike. Keep watching over us.

Mr. Meyer was my friend. The nickname he gave me was "Dorkboy". When he gave me Atomic Wedgies it was funny to me because it made me feel good that he cared about me and that is why I think he was my friend and babysitter. I feel that Mr. Meyer is always beside me.

My favorite thing in the whole world is the thought that Deputy Michael Meyer is in a lot better place in the Lord's Kingdom in Heaven. I know he was blessed with a Heavenly gift that the Lord had blessed upon him.

Mike-

It has been a year now and you are missed as much today as the day we heard the bag pipes play.

We went and placed fresh flowers where your body lays beneath the ground and put a balloon there that said "Proud and Free". If there were ever a phrase that described you that would be it. You were proud to be a Father, Christian, Marine, Officer and now you are free.

We know that only your body lies in that ground and that your spirit is free in Heaven with God our Father and that you and He are looking down on us and watching over us every day.

Thank you for being our friend.

Mike,
I recently worked the Easter Detail at the lake for the first time since your accident. I have to admit I sat and stared at your picture on the wall next to Joe's and just reflected fondly on the past. I miss you everyday buddy. How's the fishing there?
