Officer Marrero was courageous, and paid the ultimate price in what we do everyday. Her loss is felt throughout the Nation and being a Canadian Police officer, it hits us just as hard up here as well, my sincere condolences to the Officer's Family and the rest of the Tampa P.D, it truly fills my heart with grief, to hear that we have lost yet another protector, and Angel in our community, I hope that She is smilin down on us right now, because her watch is finally over, thank you Officer Marrero, you are truly an inspiration to us all.

Constable J. Rivera

I was just graduating the Academy when this happened. I was saddened by this incident....Every night I pray to God for my safety on the job and the safety of every other
Law Enforcement Officer there is. I understand the dangers of this profession. God Bless Officer Marrero and her family.

From the streets of Ybor to south tampa and points in between and all across this town of ours, you have touched a lot of lives and made a world of difference to all the people you have met. Thank you lois. I am glad I got to be one of those lucky folks. Never Forgotten.

Lois, may you be rewarded with God's peace eternally. To Mickie and your co-workers, my heart bleeds for you. The number of reflections left here by people like me who did not even know her is a real tribute to the kind of person she must have been. Peace be with you all.

There is so much pain in the loss of a fellow officer. We endure the worst things imaginable and still wish to defend the public and the people of this country. She paid the ultimate price, but she will be going to a better place now where there is no pain or suffering. Godbless her and her family. I take my hat off to you and keep you in my prayers.

Lois was an amazing person and police officer. Like so many others she died to young and to violently. As they say only the good die young and Lois was one of the best. She will never be forgotton her memory will live in all of us, she'll be in our hearts when we wake up,when we go to work, and when we go to sleep. Lois' body may be gone but we all have a piece of her in spirit. It's a shame she had to die
to finally get the recognation she deserved so much.

This site is such an amazing way to show Lois' contribution to her comunity. I'm sure she'd be glad to see this and to know what a good job she has done.

I leave you with something Lois' sister has said
"Find a child and love that child, that's how we can honor Lois"

We are tremendously saddened at the loss of Officer Lois Marrero from our "family". Mickie, Kim and I cannot even begin to know the depth of your grief. We pray that neither of us ever will. We will keep you and Lois and the Tampa Police Department in our thoughts and prayers.

Bless you both.

Only the good die young. She was the best.

I am deeply saddened to hear of our loss of fallen Officer Lois Marrero.I share the sadness when a brother or sister in Law Enforcement is killed. In 1984 my colleague, life time friend and work partner was gunned down here in Springfeild, MA. It was the most tragic thing in my life to lose him. Since that time, I have raise funds for the local COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors - Support Group) Chapter for Massachusetts. I have also help raise money for The National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC, a beautiful tribute to all fallen officers and their families.

I understand that Officer Marrero had a life companion, and like me she is gay. She is also considered family to other gay and lesbian officers. I can't tell you how painful this is for me, for that reason. When I was pinned in 1982 as a police officer, it was not known that I was gay. After years of struggle, I have delt with that painful coming out process. I proudly serve today as a police officer who happens to be gay. I have the utmost respect for the people in the Tampa Community, who knew of her siuation and poured into the funeral home, marched in the funeral procession and her life partner Mickie also a police officer, was presented a folded American Flag that was draped over her casket. That comforted me, knowing that we all are one, when a brother or sister officer is killed we ALL come togther, to pay respects to our familes. We ALL are Blue.

I also understand that Mickie will not receive the same financial benefits as a married couple. For this reason, I think it is time for ALL our departments to look at this tragic situation and learn from it. It's time to see that everyone is treated fairly when these tragic events occur. Simple Equity for ALL. When I respond to a gun call, my sexual orrientation or my partners is the last thing on my mind, my saftey and yours it first.

To Mickie and your family, God Bless You and watch over you and may Lois rest in peace. By Detective Michael P. Carney of the Springfield Police Department, Springfield, MA Vice President of the Gay Officers Action League of New England, a support group open to criminal justice employees.

I am sorry that this had to happen to Lois. My prayers go out to her partner and her co-workers.

Officer Shannon Rucker
Haltom City Texas Police Department

To the family and friends of Officer Lois Marrero:
Another Hero Falls! It is sad to hear that another officer has lost their life in the line of duty. And a female, as I, and with 18 years on the force. I have 17 years and 7 months! I almost lost my life when I was working in a Special Crimes Unit. I was run off the roadway, my patrol vehicle flipped three times and knocked me unconsious. My patrol car was on fire when I woke up.. I was trapped inside in an inferno! I prayed to God... "please do not let my fate be to burn to death while still alive". I was one of the fortunate ones. It was not my time. Two teenage boys pulled me out! I was given a second chance.

I pray for those who have lost their lives every day, especially those, like Lois, who made the ultimate sacrafice, in the line of duty, and gave up their lives!

We Will Never Forget You. Rest in Peace sister.

I DIDNT KNOW OFFICER MARRERO PERSONALLY, BUT I DID HAVE THE HONOR OF ESCORTING THE TAMPA P.D. MOTORCADE FROM PINELLAS COUNTY TO TAMPA, IN WHICH HER FAMILY WAS A PART OF. THE DEATH OF OFFICER MARRERO TOUCHED ALL OF OUR HEARTS AND SOLES IN THE TAMPA BAY AREA, AND I JUST WANTED TO SAY TO THE FAMILY, THAT YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE A DAUGHTER TO REMEMBER BECAUSE SHE LIVES IN THE HEARTS AND SOLES OF EVERY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER IN OUR COMMUNITY, AND SHE WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US IN SPIRIT.
