Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sheriff Harold Ray Presley

I only had the priviledge of known Sheriff Presley for about 4 years before his tragic death. During that time he earned my respect as a leader and a dedicated professional. He truly cared about his staff and was dedicated to the law enforcement profession. More often than not he would be working along side his deputies and investigators willing to take on himself any task he might request of them. This is exactly what he was doing at the time of his death. We need more like him. He will be missed by many.

Tommy Simpson
Retired Law Enforcement

I did not know Sheriff Presley personally, but I only heard good things about him. The Family of Law Enforcement lost one of the good ones and will not be the same without him. My deepest sympathy for the Presley Family during this time of loss. Sheriff Presley is in heaven with all the other fallen Officers from Lee county, and the State of Mississippi and all other Officers in the United States and they are always watching over us. Sheriff Presley, you will be missed and will never be forgotten.

Sheriff Harold Ray Presley was one of the best men I have ever known. He was an outstanding leader. He was like family. He was always working and never complained. He loved his people, every last one of them. I always knew that he would give his life for any of us. He never failed to come by and ask how we were doing. He was always concerned and cared how we felt. He loved his job, it was his passion and he loved his family. He hated drugs and committed his life to getting them off the street. When he made a big bust he was like a child at christmas. He was always proud of the drugs that were taken off of the street. I hate so much that he is gone, but he blessed my life just knowing him. He touched so many people here in Lee County and he will never be forgotten.
We Miss You Harold Ray Presley!!!
From an employee, who felt like family, but most of all a friend.

To the Presley Family,

Our prayers and wishes go out to your family that everyone may recover from this tragedy and that may god bless you all for the great loss you all have suffered. I have met Mr. Presley twice and anyone could see the love that he had for his job and the way he took his job serious. He was a great man and will never be forgotten by the people and his fellow brothers in Law Enforcement. Britt

My prayers and thoughts go out to this brave man, he was out in the dark of night searching for a wanted and dangerous fugitive, a person who knows not any civility or concience, Sheriff Presley found him, but in protecting his community he lost his life, and in that loss, his community lost a dangerous man who will never hurt or harm again, another criminal who faces his maker for those dreadful iniquities in the last minutes of his life...

Rest Sheriff, your shift has ended, and the community now sleeps with more security....

Scott Parker
Former Harris County Deputy Constable

My thoughts and prayers go out to Sheriff Presley's family and to the Lee County Sheriff's Office. Thanks for helping to try to make this a better world to live in.

I can assure you that he was a fantastic Sheriff and loved what he did. He loved his community and what he stood for. He made it an honor to work for him. What a tragic loss we have suffered throughout our entire county.

Sgt. Sheri Hall
Lee Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Being a past officer in Lee County and the son of an officer in Lee County, MS; I became close friends with Sheriff Presley. I know of no better officer. Sheriff Presley was a good man and a GREAT Law Enforcement Officer. I would like to thank Sheriff Presley for being like a family member to me. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Presley and all the members of the Lee County Sheriff's Department. I know that it's hard to lose two Great Sheriff's in a row in office, but we all must continue on in the fight against crime because that is what Harold Ray Presley lived and died for and we must continue his legacy. I know that Harold Ray and Jack Shirley are both in Heaven now watching over us as we carry on their efforts. God Bless you all.

Terry L. Winkles, Past Officer

To the family and officers who worked under him may God bless each and every one of you. I know how it feels to love a co-worker. On 5/12/2001 I received a phone call saying I just had a officer killed in the line of duty. My heart went to my feet.I've done this type work for nearly 28 years and this day in time I can only wonder will I be next. I just trust in God that he will protect me and if it's my time I know I will be with God. This agency's prayers will be with you.

Chief Danny Russ
Bladenboro Police Dept

You are not forgotten! We will continue to do the job in your honor and in memory of you and all who laid down their lives so that we could live in a civilized society. We are stronger because of you. Rest in peace.

I had met Sheriff Presley several times and I was very impressed with the man. He never acted like he was better than you, he acted very down to earth. It makes my heart sad when something like this happens. My thoughts will be with the Presley family. You will always be remembered Sheriff Presley.

Deputy Randy Butts
Washington County Sheriff's Department

My prayers are with the family and Dept of Harold Presley:

The Badge

- It is polished and shiny and looks so fine.
Once you earn it you have to tow the line.
- The minute you wear it upon your chest
it becomes a symbol that you are the best.
- It means honesty, integrity, and fairness to all.
Your life is never your own, but at the publics call.
- Night or day, any hour, it makes you a mark.
It doesn't protect you from a shot in the dark.
- Over the years the shine starts to fade,
but brighter still is the man its made.
- It is often what seperates you from the crowd.
It is a second family of which you are proud.
- So now comes your time, you can't be denied.
When you pin on your badge, wear it with pride
- The minute you wear it upon your chest
it becomes a symbol that you are the best.
