Reflections for Acting Chief Daniel Carrol Dalley

Chief Danny Dalley was one of the finest young men I have known. I went to the funeral today, Everything they said was true. He was a cops cop. He was a great humanitarian. He loved Sibil, and his kids. I am proud to say that I knew him as a friend, Danny budddy you are my friend and I will miss you. You did one heck of a job here buddy.

Chief Dalley was a friend to all law enforcement officers in western Colorado. Many do not know that he was also an active EMT and Firefighter with the Lower Valley Fire Department of Fruita, Colorado. Chief Dalley was an execeptional individual and will be missed by his department, his community, and his many friends in law enforcement and firefighting. Our collective prayers are with his family.

I was overcome with shock and saddness after reading about another police officer taken from us. Dan Dalley died with his young child on his mind, another selfless act which proves what a hero he was.

I hope that his family can find solice in the great memories that he shared with them. Dan was a great officer, but more importantly, he was a great father.

When I visited the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C., I read a passage on the wall that rings so true and encapsulates this tragedy.

"It is not how these men died that made them heroes... It is how they lived."

I had the honor and privilage to work with Danny for over 3 years, both as an Officer with Fruita and as a Deputy with Mesa County. In over 6 years of Law Enforcement experience I have never meet a better cop than Danny. He was not only one of the most dedicated officers I have run across, but he was also a very dedicated father and husband. On top of being outstanding in these areas, Danny was a wonderful and caring EMT with the Lower Valley Fire Department for many years. Danny was always willing to help anyone at any time. But above all, Danny was a great friend. Danny will be missed in ways that words can not describe. This community, state and nation has lost one of the great ones.

I have two small girls and I feel so incredibly sad for this family. It sounded like this man thought of his family so much that he died trying to come to the aid of one of them. Rest in peace with the Lord , my brother.

It is heartbreaking to hear of another death of an officer, as it is to hear about any officer killed in the line of duty. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family for their loss. I hope his 6 mos old child is alright as well (does anyone know if this is true?).

Scholars say it is written.
In a sacred place called the Hall of Souls.
When the Almighty God..commands I must have one.
One must be sacrificed.

It reads: The Heavens will open up.
The Earth shook with Fear.
For Evil, knew of God's Army.
They were Heroes, Men on steel horses.

It never gets easier to hear of losing another brother. Rest in peace.

I had the honor to work with Danny at the Fruita Police Dept for about three years. I learned a great deal about law enforcement and had many laughs from Danny . He was a wonderful officer, friend, and father. Your knowledge, compassion, friendship, and humor will be greatly missed. I hope to be a great officer like you.

Rest in Peace

Danny was my friend, my training officer, my sergeant and my chief. Most of all Danny was one of the best people and THE best officer I have ever had the privledge of knowing. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss and think of my friend, Dan Dalley. May your soul find peace brother.

Officer John T. Coughran
Fruita Police

As one reads through the reflections on your page and as a fellow officer who attended your funeral it makes me realize even more what an honor it was to be your friend and academy classmate. The paper headlines put it best, "He was the Best." May you rest in everlasting peace and may the Lord Bless and keep your beautiful family. Watch over us my friend. Your life should be an example to us all. God Speed.

Officer Diane Fox
Cortez Police Department

I just wanted to express my condolances for A/Chief DALLEY's passing. I attended school in Fruita, and I always had a lot of respect for the Fruita Police....Although I did not know Mr. DALLEY, I do understand what his fellow officers are feeling, as we have lost two of our own officers recently.

Dan and I were hired at our respective departments within months of each other. I had the pleasure of working with Dan many times over the last eight years. Dan was a GOOD Cop and one that any fellow Cop loved to work with.

I had the opportunity to work with Dan the night before his accident. He was always looking for ways to better serve his town. He had ask for the assistance of the Drug Task Force, of which I was a member. Due to Dan's proactive views and insight to take action, a known marijuana dealer was arrested. That arrest resulted in the seizure of one pound of marijuana and about $27,000.00. And a night of training for his officers that will never be forgotten by them.

God be with Dan's family. He will not be forgotten.

Detective Curt Moreno
Grand Junction Police Department

I had the pleasure of working with Dan Daly for about a year on the Lower Valley Fire Department in Fruita and Loma Colorado. We both completed Academy training during that year and headed into separate Law Enforcement agencies. Dan was committed to helping people both as a Law Enforcement Officer and Firefighter EMT. Dan will be missed by many.

Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement
Colorado Division of Wildlife

Dan is my baby brother. Even as a small boy, Dan knew he wanted to be a police officer when he grew up. Being a police officer was not just a "job" to Dan. He truly cared about the people in the community, and took his position seriously. He put in many extra hours to help others, and to further his own training, so that he could do the best job possible. I always knew that the men and women in law enforcement always supported each other, but did not realize to what extent until now. I can never say enough "Thanks" to the officers of Fruita, Grand Junction, and Mesa County for the tremendous support to the family. The support from the many officers and deputies who came from agencies around the state and out of state was outstanding. Dan was proud to serve with all of you!

Ronda Martin
sister

I had the pleasure of working with Dan on many occasions, as my patrol district includes the city of Fruita. There's no doubt Dan was one of the best cops I've worked with in my career. I'm sure he has a smile on his face as he is patrolling up there in the sky. I'll cherish my memories of working with you Dan.

Deputy J. Hildebrand
Mesa County, Colorado Sheriff's Office

Dan,
Here it is Father's Day weekend. What a horrible tragedy that you will not be able to spend it for the first time with your youngest son. You also missed your oldest son's 8th birthday almost a week ago. We will be thinking of your family in this terrible time, and know that you are resting in peace with your Heavenly Father and looking down on your family with love and admiration in your eyes. We know that you will be their guardian angel and watch over them until they can be reunited with you again.

Cybill, please know that we are thinking about you and your boys everyday. We will do anything for you if you need it. God bless you and your boys.

Wife of Boulder County, Colorado Deputy
