Reflections for Police Officer Alberto "Albert" Vasquez
Carlos graduated from Baylor just a few days ago. I know you were watching.
This year you have officially been gone longer than the 21 years I served on the department. I was so proud to serve with you, and I think of you often. I also think of this night and wish I could have gotten there sooner. You will never be forgotten! Love you, Bro!

Sweetie,
I know it has been a while since I visited the site and as you know there is not a day that goes by without thinking of you, or telling someone about you, or talking about your boys. You are FOREVER in my mind and heart. I am so excited that we are doing a Hero WOD in your memory this weekend. As I always tell people no matter how long it has been (21 years to be exact) that void it's still there but we learned to move forward and never forgotten about you. I miss your smile so much..... but I know one day will reunite again. Te amo.

Today I went to the same church where a prayer service for Alberto’s family took place. This year is 20th time. The pastor is very kind. He told us he has done this prayer service for Alberto family for 20 times. He will keep this service even on day he is in wheel chair. He told us he is 72 years old. He pray for every one of us, almost every one of us in uniform. Two commanders present.
20 years ago, I was a young officer with 4 years on. I worked at night shift while Alberto worked at evening shift. We chatted in the parking lot in front of the station a few days before Alberto was killed in the line of duty. Seem like last week. Alberto is very kind person.
Today I met Alberto’s son, his wife, his mother in law, and his old parter today. Glad to know his son in college. A fine young man.
In 2007, I was promoted to sergeant and was assigned to 18 district where Alberto and his partner encountered the shooting. My squad officers went to the same apartment complex often for call for service. I always made sure my guys had back up. I always checked by my guys there for disturbances.
Alberto, rest easy brother. We remember you.

Dear Dad
This is the first time that I have seen this page, and it makes me smile knowing so many people loved you and thought the world of you. It is almost 19 years now since I lost you. There has never been a day where I don't think about you. For whoever is reading this that has also lost a family member in the line of duty or even a father, I want you to know it gets easier to talk about it. Remember we honor our fallen families by the way we live and hold ourselves up.

This is the first time I’ve ever written about this. I remember this evening vividly. You asked me to work with you, Rick, and Major. I declined because it was my last night at Westside, before transferring to Beechnut. I was on my way home when I got a terrible phone call. I drove straight to Ben Taub, to give you all my love. Bro, like it’s yesterday I remember you, your smile, and the love you and Rick showed me when we were beat-mates. ‘Til we meet again, I’ll always wonder, what if. Te quero mucho, hermano y Dios te bendiga. Te miro al rato.

Albert -
Today is the first day I have ever seen this page. It brings my heart joy to know that Patty and your boys can find a little comfort knowing how much you are missed and thought of still by friends and family. We think of you often, and I know Cary will forever mourn the loss of you here with us.

I just discovered this site and I think is great that we have the opportunity of expressing our feelings for such a wonderful human being. You were my first friend when I came to the USA, with my only goal of becoming a Police officer. You gave me my first duty belt and my first bullets proof vest. Next to you almost every night, when you were taking care of our community on 6363 Beverly Hills, I learned a lot about professionalism and ethics as a police officer. And as a friend, beside all the time that we shared,as neighbors, at the celebration back to back of the Houston Rockets, at the Astro World parks, etc...I also took from you advises that later on, I applied working as a cop. I still can not believe that my first assignment was to represent my department at your funeral. I was still training with a supervisor, when I got the terrible news. Brother, I always kept your belt, your vest and your unconditional friendship from where I learned how to be a real police officer without been mean to the people around you. God bless you and your family for ever, and don't worry, we will get together again in the next life.

I've been thinking a lot about you lately. We were neighbors on Beverly Hilll St. and you worked off duty security at our apartments. We talked a lot when I would come home late from bars/clubs. You were always telling me about the dangers all around me. Kinda like a big brother. I told you I was thinking of moving off of Gulfton when my lease was up because the apts. were cheaper. You told me absolutely not!! You told me how bad that area was. I listened to you, I always listened. You were the nicest cop I'd ever known. You were so proud of your family and your sons. When I heard that someone had taken your life from you, my spirit was crushed. And that it happened in the area you had warned me of. I remember driving past your funeral on Westheimer and there were so many people. You were definitely on of the good ones. I know you're playing it sweet in Heaven.

Sweetie, it has been 15 years since your departure, our family chain is broken and nothing is the same. Today was a special day we honored you at your station - Westside, it was a beautiful ceremony; your son Andy and Beto were so proud and humble by this ceremony. Now your picture and name its in the Wall of Honor, it was a bittersweet moment for me. Te Amo.

I Pray for Peace for your Family, Friends and the men and women of the Houston Police Department. I also Pray that the hounds of hell forever pursue the scum that murdered you.
