Sgt. Berry,
This marks the fourth anniversary of your death, and I wanted to let you know that I thnk you for the difference that you made to the County that you served so selflessly. As a former member of your Department, I had a brief time to get to know you, and in that time, you showed me what a good, and decent man you were. I wanted you to know that you are not forgotten, and I have the anniversary of your death on my callendar each year. This past year I lost two other friends, Sgt. Jimmy Gilbert, and Officer Chuck Haist. Please look out for them, and show them the ropes. Thanks.

All of our shifts today are dedicated to the memory of Sgt. Wilbur Berry who three years ago this day lost his life in the never ending pursuit of justice. We extend our thoughts and prayers to Sgt Wilbur's family, friends and fellow law enforcement officers. His heroic actions are a tribute to all who serve and we honor him and he will never be forgotten by us.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, May 19, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Sgt. Wilbur Berry who died in the line of duty on this date three years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Sgt. Berry's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

In 1985 about four months before I was hired as a Road Deputy with the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office, I would patrol every other weekend with Sgt. Berry. Wilbur taught me a lot about the different aspects of law enforcement and how to deal with the many types of people we come in contact with.

Wilbur was not only a partner that you could count on when things got rough, but he was also a reliable friend that I could call on at anytime. We had many laughs and good times both on the job and off.

Wilbur will be dearly missed by myself, the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office and the many friends he has made during his career. My prayers and thoughts are with his family: Wife-Judy; sons-Brian, Chris, Terry, Troy; and daughter-Melissa. May the peace of God be with you all.

Wilbur, you will always be in my memory and I will think of you each day I put on my uniform and go 10-8 / 10-41.

Another great deputy lost doing what he loved the best, protecting those in his community from the evils of crime. It's not the critic who counts nor the man who points out how the strong man stumbled or were the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood who strives who spends himself in a worthy cause. Theodore Roosevelt wrote this a long time ago. Sgt Berry was everything in this poem. Being a good Man and a deputy Sheriff cost him his life. His Spirit will live on now forever. Kenny

I didn't know Sgt. Berry, and I am not a cop. I am however a secretary that works with law enforcement officers each and every day. My heart goes out to his family, and I can only hope that they find peace that Sgt. Berry is the ultimate hero. He gave his live in order to "protect and serve" and those are very hard words to live by.

Deputy Sheriff Berry left this world doing what he loved best.To Protect and serve are really big and imporant words. There will probably be a hundred more Deputys and Police Officers who will die before this Year ends. It could be me or you.Every one please say a prayer for his Family and friends. Kenny .
