Reflections for Police Officer Brian Joe Ramey

I JUST WANT TO SAY HOW MUCH I HURT WHEN I CAME UP TO YOUR CAR THE NIGHT OF THE ACCIDENT.I CALLED YOUR NAME OVER AND OVER AGAIN HOPING YOU WOULD JUST SAY SOMETHING.OUR SHORT TIME TOGETHER MAY NOT ALWAYS BEEN THE BEST BUT WE ALWAYS WORKED THINGS OUT.I CAN STILL SEE YOU IN MY MIND WHEN YOU WENT OUT THE DOOR TO ASSIST WHEN THE CALL CAME IN.YOU NEVER FAILED TO HELP ANYTIME YOU WERE CALLED UPON.I WOULD LIKE TO SAY WE MAY GET ANOTHER OFFICER BUT WE WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER BRIAN.EVERYTIME I COME IN TOWN I AM LOOKING TO SEE YOU I KNOW IT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME TO GET BACK TO NORMAL BUT ONETHING FOR SURE YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN.

SGT. RANDY SYKES
BLADENBORO POLICE DEPT

"Your home brother, watch over us now as we go out to serve". " You laid your life down without hesitation so others would be safe". You are a hero!, God will watch over your family, brothers and sisters in blue, rest now, your tour is over.

A PART OF AMERICA DIED

SOMEBODY KILLED A POLICEMAN TODAY
AND A PART OF AMERICA DIED...
A PIECE OF OUR COUNTRY HE SWORE TO PROTECT
WILL BE BURIED WITH HIM AT HIS SIDE.

THE BEAT THAT HE WALKED WAS A BATTLEFIELD,TOO,
JUST AS IF HE HAD GONE OFF TO WAR;
THOUGH THE FLAG OF OUR NATION WON'T FLY AT HALF-MAST
TO HIS NAME THEY WILL ADD A GOLD STAR.

THE SUSPECT THAT SHOT HIM WILL STAND UP IN COURT
WITH COUNSEL DEMANDING HIS RIGHTS,
WHILE A YOUNG, WIDOWED MOTHER MUST WORK FOR HER KIDS
AND SPEND MANY LONG,LONELY NIGHTS.

YES, SOMEBODY KILLED A POLICEMAN TODAY...
MAYBE IN YOUR TOWN OR MINE,
WHILE WE SLEPT IN COMFORT BEHIND OUR LOCKED DOORS
A COP PUT HIS LIFE ON THE LINE.

NOW HIS GHOST WALKS THE BEAT ON A DARK CITY STREET,
AND HE STANDS AT EACH NEW ROOKIE'S SIDE;
HE ANSWERED THE CALL...OF HIMSELF GAVE HIS ALL,
AND A PART OF AMERICA DIED...

As a first time visitor to the National Law Enforcement Memorial this year I am deeply saddened. Your memory will always live on and NEVER be forgotten. We will ride for the survivors every year as we pay tribute to the sacrifices that Off. Ramey made. My heart goes out to Off. Ramey's family, friends and loved ones.

The injustices placed upon society by a few will cost the majority a debt nobody will ever be able to repay. We lose the fabric called the "thin blue line" when we forget the sacrifices that weaves our existence in the men and women behind the badge....lest we not forget...
Our sympathy goes out to the friend’s family and fellow officer’s of Officer Brian Joe Ramey.

It saddens me to hear of the death of Officer Ramey. It was only 2 weeks ago that I had lunch with Officer Ramey. We both had just completed a re-certification class on Intoxilizer 5000 breath instrument in Lumberton, North Carolina. It's times like these that makes us realize that life is so short. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family and fellow police officers of Bladenboro. May god be with you!

To the family of Officer Brian Raney:
It is with heartfelt sorrow that I extend my sympathy. To his family and to his fellow Officers. To his Squad, who felt the impact of losing one of our own. we just recently lost one of our own on May 4, 2001. As an officer, I came close to losing my life in 1997, I know I was one of the lucky ones. After being run off the road, my patrol vehicle caught on fire. I thought it was my fate to die. Trapped in my vehicle, with severe injuries, my guardian angel, in the form of a 15 yr. old, pulled me out to safety, as my vehicle erupted into flames. It was not my time. God gave me a reason to live, and I am thankful. May Brian rest in peace, along with our other Heros. Let his death not be in vain.

Deputy Belia Fessenden
Pinal County Sheriff's Department

It is always a sad day when one of our own is taken away from us. Society is always at a greater risk when one if its' "Guardians" is hurt.
I cannot imagine the pain a family must feel, but I do know that I, like everyone else will miss a man that has decided to put others first before himself.
