Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jason Patrick Lopez

Jay,

Words cannot say how much you are missed by all, not a day goes by that I do not think of you and your family. To everyone that is hurting, time will ease our pain, but will not make it fade forever, but we will all get through this together, through our fond memories of our fallen brother.

Romans 13: 1-7

1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgement on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4 For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give everyone what you owe him: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

You will be honored on Thursday the 10th of May 2001 by the Law Enforcement community.

It is not how deputy Lopez died that made him a hero but how he lived. My prayers are with the Lopez family as they are with the families of all fallen officers. God bless you all.

Dear Mrs. Lopez,

I too am a police widow. I lost my husband last August, and like you had a small child at the time. My son was only 17 months old when my husband was killed, and I was pregnant with twins at the time. I understand the heartache you feel, not only at the loss of your husband, but also at the fact that our small children will not have the opportunity to know their fathers. Please know that, although it is still extremely painful, it does get easier with time. You and your children will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

As a born and raised Arizona native and sixteen year law enforcement veteran I offer my thoughts and prayers for the family and Deputy Lopez'z Department. I served for ten years in the USMC as well as a Officer in Texas, New Mexico and now in Georgia. It saddens me anytime a fellow Officer and Brother is lost. It happens too much in this day and age. But it is those of us that do the job that make the world what it is today.

Jay,
May you rest in Peace with our Heavenly Father in Heaven. Your Death will not be in vain! You are our Hero. You will be greatly missed by your fellow officers..... Your humor and wittyness will be missed, by aall, including the Dispatchers, who were the object of your pranks! :) Your beautiful wife, Corina misses you. Your sons will be raised to remember you for the wonderful father you were, the great person you were, and the death you suffered, in the line of duty. You will be remembered in our prayers. Thank You for giving me the opportunity of knowing you from a child to the great man you became. You will forever be our HERO! And I will still not run Code 3 over 100 mph. And when I do, look over me, please. Rest in Peace.
