Reflections for Border Patrol Agent Jason Christopher Panides

Jason you will never be forgotten. In this your seventh anniversary a softball tournament will be held in your honor. We hope to raise enough money to fund several local scholarships in your name. Because we know that education was very important to you. May God bless Jason, his family, all who take the time to read this message, the tournament and may God bless America.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Jason,

I found this website by accident, and decided to see if you were remembered here. I am glad that you are, it means a lot to be able to leave a comment. I met you at Glynco when you were still in the academy, and then again in Laredo when I moved there to be with my family. You were a great person and a great agent, and I wish I had known you better. As the wife of a former BPA, I know how your family feels about losing you. I worry constantly about the possibility of something happening to my husband Jason. You guys worked together at Laredo North, and we still remember you and talk about you from time to time. I will never forget working at AirOps with the other secretaries when they called you over the radio and announced that you were dead. What a sad day for all agents and their loved ones. You are loved and missed.

Its been over six years, Jason, and we all still think of you from time to time. Just the other day I saw a sticker on a file cabinet in the new Laredo West station - "In Memory of Jason Panides". I know you would have been here at West, doing all of the things you loved - working groups in the brush, working the river, looking for dope, etc. (Although by now you would have probably gone over to the dark side - "Supervisor" Panides).

I remember when we were both trainees and we caught a group down in Area 2. I think we were more suprised and scared than the aliens.

Take care in heaven and watch out for those of us still working the line.

I attended the funeral of my fellow Plano Police Officer Wes Hardy (07/12/07) and it brings back many memories of the day you were lost. I try to think of all the positive you brought and bring to our lives. The days of you chasing dope and catching smuggling cases. We miss you always and we try to live by your example. Take Care.

Man its hard to believe its over six years since we lost you. You are still in my thoughts Jason everyday as I go about my life. I remember catching that big dope load with you a few weeks before the accident and how excited we were. I miss those times and I miss you. I rememember that night of the accident like it was yesterday. God be with your family and may you rest in peace.

To my fellow Floridian, May god bless your family and friends. I can't believe it's been 5 years since that night. Your name still comes up all the time and it always brings a smile to my face. I'll never forget the good time we had in San Antonio for Fat Tuesdays and the times I had the opportunity to work with you on the line. You were a great journeyman. I hope your family and friends are doing well. We miss you here in Laredo, God Bless You and your family.

these officers losing their lives,
