Reflections for Investigator Sherry Elizabeth Lyons-Williams

And yet many still say we are not at War. Investigator Lyons-Williams will always be honored in my Heart! I feel that she should recieve the highest award for her actions. The very same award that is given to a service member for his/her actions. The Medal of Honor. May God be with you and you loved ones. Rest easy.

I was recently injured in a seriuos car wreck while at work. One officer is still in serios condition in the ICU. The job we do is an inheretly dangerous job. We go from 0 to 100 in a second, our job is always changing. It's a job we do because we love it, our fellow officers, and our fellow man. We try to make a difference in a society that doesn't like us, unless they need us. While your death is a tragedy, not only to your immediate family, but to your family in law enforcement, hopefully your family will take comfort in knowing you were trying to make a difference in your community. And that doesn't go unappreciated by your fellow brothers and sisters in law enforcement, nor by the members of your community. God bless you, you are one of the unsung heroes.

Sherry, though I never knew you personally, I want to say "thank you" for doing a job so many haven't the courage to do. The "thin blue line" seems to be getting even more thin in the State of Georiga, and especially in our area. So many have fallen here in the past few years. Maybe someday people, besides our families and our peers, will stand beside us and say "enough is enough". But until that day, or the day that our Lord returns to take us (Cops) all, "rest in peace" little sister. We'll all join you in the ranks once again . . .

As a Metro-Atlanta Police Officer myself, it saddens me when I learn of another of my fellow officers being killed in the line of duty. Detective Williams, you may be gone, but not forgotten. You are in a better place now, watching over your fellow officers still on this earth. May God be with your family, friends and fellow officers. We will meet again when our time on this earth is done.

Captain Harry White
Morrow Ga. Police Department

Once again the thin blue line has been dealt a tremendous loss of one of our own. May God bless Inv. Lyons-Williams' family and know that one of our best has answered our highest calling and the ultimate sacrafice has been made.

Every couple days a police officer dies somewhere doing there duty to protect and serve. Nobody knows where it will happen next. This time it was a woman in Georgia Last time a police officer in Texas. My son was Killed while on duty last year. Why must people kill.? The sadness this creates is beyond your wildest imaginatin. Now her family and friends will suffer terrible pain from her loss. The best part is the killer paid Quickly for what he done. She has gone to a much better place now. kenny

Please accept our prayer and heart felt sorrow for your agency's loss. May God Bless her Husband and comfort him in knowing that his wife looked evil in the face and won. She stood where others would not go, and refused to retreat.

I was informed of Investigator Lyons-Williams as I turned on the television set. I was saddened that another law enforcement officer was taken from us who was so dedicated to her job. She was taken from us trying to get drugs off the streets. She will be missed by all of us in law enforcement for the outstanding job she did and for the person she was. My prayers for her family and the members of the APD

I just had to leave a message for the family of Investigator Sherry Lyons-Williams. She was a woman of real bravery and courage, which I have seen first-hand through our female investigators here. Her death is not in vain, for the person that took her life also gave his, leaving our country with one less person to destroy our children with drugs. My prayers are with you during this time of loss. I shall remember her as a fallen sister who died trying to save others from death. God Bless You!

You kept me going on drill weekends. You were the glue that kept it all together and now that you're gone, I feel lost. I'll miss you my friend.

My deepest sympathy and prayers are with the family of Sherry Lyons-Williams. Surely, in time, The Lord will reveal why this happened. Perhaps it is to bring us all closer to Him. Be comforted by the fact that she earned the right to be in a much better place than we. Peace be with you.

To the family, friends and fellow officers of Investigator Sherry Lyons-Williams,

It is always sad when we lose yet another officer in what has become a very violent world to be a police officer. However, we can all take comfort in the fact that God reserves a special place for those who give so unselfishly of themselves, and pay the ultimate price while serving the public so diligently. While I never had the fortune to meet Investigator Lyons-Williams, I am sure that those who have ever stood by her will always remember her accomplishments and will never forget that the thin blue line may bend and stretch, but will never break. My deepest prayers to each member of the Atlanta Police Department and the Lyons-Williams family.

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen.

I had the pleasure of knowing Sherry back in 1978. We both attended Gordon Jr. College in Barnesville, Ga. I left Gordon in December of 1980 and had not seen Sherry since leaving. I was told last year of her passing. Today 10-15-2002, I was reading a UGA pamphlet and read about the scholarship that was given in her name. I was compelled to go on line and am grateful I came across this site. I've sat here and read all personal reflections of Sherry. When I first saw her picture, my heart skipped a beat. She looked EXACTLY as she did back in 1978...didn't change a bit! I am happy to read neither did her attitude nor personality. It's nice to read that others had the pleasure of seeing her smile and knowing just how wonderful she really was. I'm REALLY sorry to know this has happened to such a Good person.
I pray her family burdens of this loss will someday be lifted and that Sherry's soul will rest in eternal peace.

People think that we aren't human, but we are. They think that we don't have hearts, or feelings, but we do. they think that we don't cry real tears or feel pain, but it is so very evident that we do. To your physical family, feelings of heartfelt sympathy, You are home now, feeling no pain, no more tears.

Rest in Peace

Sherry,
The world will never be the same now that you are no longer with us, in the flesh. The sun still rises in the morning, and sets each and every evening. But something seems to be missing. It took me a while to figure out just what it was. It's you, my friend. We miss you.

Many months have passed since you were taken from our fold, but the hurt is still present and the loss is still felt by everyone who knew and loved you. The glow that entered a room with you is gone, that ready smile you so eagerly shared with the world is missing, and the mood is just a little bit darker without all your crazy jokes.

I thank God He gave us a small part of your time here on earth. Let me assure you, my friend, your memory will be with us forever. That hearty sense of humor and your dedication to the job are a constant reminder that you were here and left a favorable mark.

Rest in peace and know that those of us left behind will carry on the best we can in the job you did so well.

My thoughts and prayers go to her family. I am sorry for thier loss.

Sgt. T. Ferguson
Henry County Police Department

I would like to say to the Atlanta Police Dept, thank you for your sincere condolences on the tragic loss of one of our own, even though your hearts were heavy from the loss of one of your own. To the family, I will continue to pray for you. As a female officer, it's hits like a brick to hear that one of us has been taken away from our children and husbands. I know that you gave your life doing what you love, and at your time of death, you were at peace...
I WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE THE CITIZENS OF MY COMMUNITY, WITH THE SAME RESPECT AND LOYALTY THAT YOU HAVE...YOU WILL BE FOREVER IN MY HEART. FROM ONE SISTER IN BLUE TO ANOTHER....MAY YOU WATCH OVER US
