Reflections for Investigator Sherry Elizabeth Lyons-Williams

Sergeant Lyons-Williams honorably served with the U.S. Army Reserve as a member of the 213th Legal Services Organization in addition to her service to the Atlanta Police Department. She was dedicated to serving her community and her nation. Her work ethic was unparalleled and she exuded confidence and a can-do spirit. I had the privilege of serving as her First Sergeant for the last five years. Her uncanny ability to sense what was needed and to see that it was done with a smile brought joy to each tour of duty. If things weren't quite right, the only frustrating word she would utter was "snap" and on with the task she went. She was a leader, a professional, and motivator. She led by example. She would never shy away from a challenge, nor would she let you. She will be missed and remembered as one of the few very special people that lived to make a difference. That she did.

GOD'S BOXES OF LOVE

I HAVE IN MY HAND'S TWO BOXES WHICH GOD GAVE ME TO HOLD

HE SAID,"PUT ALL YOUR SORROW'S IN THE BLACK,

AND ALL YOUR JOYS IN THE GOLD."

I HEEDED HIS WORD'S AND IN THE TWO BOXES

BOTH MY JOYS AND SORROWS I STORE.

BUT THROUGH THE GOLD BECAME HEAVIER EACH DAY,

THE BLACK WAS AS LIGHT AS BEFORE.

WITH CURISOITY, I OPENED THE BLACK,

I WANTED TO KNOW WHY

AND I SAW IN THE BASE OF THE BOX

A HOLE WHICH MY SORROWS HAD FALLEN OUT BY,

I SHOWED THE HOLE TO GOD

AND MUSED ALOUD

"I WONDER WERE ALL MY SORROWS COULD BE?"

HE RESPONED WITH A SMILE

MY DEAR CHILD, THERE ALL HERE WITH ME.

I ASKED,"GOD, WHY GIVE ME THE BOXES,

WHY THE GOLD AND THE BLACK WITH THE HOLE."

"MY CHILD, THE GOLD IS FOR YOU TO COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS,

THE BLACK IS FOR YOU TO LET GO."

To the family of Investigator Sherry Lyons-Williams. It saddens my heart to hear of yet another officer that has fallen. I didn't know her but I can truly say that, "yes she was special". It takes a special person to use their life as a shield for someone that they don't even know. As a police officer myself, I know the dangers that we all must face at one time or another and that is why our shield comes from a much higher source and is one that will always be there when we need him. This soldier has now joined the angels of a much more powerful army and will keep constant watch over us. My prayers are with you always....

MADE THE LORD BE WITH YOU ALL IN YOUR TIME OF DEEP LOST. I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THIS IN THE MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN SISTER, INVESTIGATOR SHERRY LYONS-WILLIAM:

The Police Officers 23rd Psalm...The lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want, His comforting hand reduces fear to naught, He makes me walk through streets of crime, but He gives me courage and peace of mind. He leads by still waters in the path I trod, and He says in Romans I'm a "Minister of God". He leads in righteousness as He restores my soul, for His name's sake, He keeps me whole. When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door, I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more. For thou art with me every step of the way, as thy rod and staff protect me each day. He prepares a table, especially for me, as I walk daily among life's enemies. He gives me authority to uphold the law, and He anoints my postion in the midst of it all. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me, each day of my life through eternity. As I long to hear Him say, Well done...", When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun............... Author Unknown

I am certain, from reading all of these reflections, that she left a mark in this world and that she will pave the way for the rest of us in the next. We at the International Association of Women Police salute Investigator Sherry Lyons-Williams for her dedication to a job that few are called upon to do. To her family, friends and co-workers, we send our heartfelt sympathy. We know your pain and hope that this serves as some sort of comfort to you.

Instructions - by Arnold Crompton

When I have moved beyond you in the adventure of life

gather in some pleasant place

and there remember me

with spoken words, old and new.

Let a tear fall if you will,

but let a smile come quickly

for I have loved the laughter of life.

Do not linger too long with your solemnities

go eat and drink and talk

and when you can--

follow a woodland trail

climb a high mountain

sleep beneath the stars,

swim in a cold river,

chew the thoughts of some book which challenges your soul,

use your hands some bright day, to make a thing of beauty

or lift someone's heavy load

Though you mention not my name,

though no thought of me crosses your mind,

I shall be with you,

for these have been realities of life to me.

And when you face some crisis with anguish

when you walk alone with courage,

when you choose your paths of right,

when you give yourself in love,

I shall be very close to you.

I have followed the valleys,

I have climbed the heights of life.

Sherry Lyons Williams, may God sustain your family and give them strength, because they miss you as do we all.

The Sifford Family

I am not a police officer. But, being a woman I surely can imagine how much guts it takes to be a female officer. Not to mention a narcotics officer. This incident has really made me sad to know that the only goal was to get a drug dealer off the street. To the Williams family, Sherry is truely in a better place. Be strong and look above for strength. May God Bless each and everyone of you.
