I HAD OCCASION TO WORK VICE ASSN'S WITH HECTOR. I DON'T THINK I EVER MET A MORE UPBEAT FRIENDLY GREAT GUY. WE DIDN'T WORK IN A DAY TO DAY RELATIONSHIP, BUT YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO FOR ONE TO KNOW THIS WAS TRUELY A GREAT GUY. I MISS HIM AND THINK OF HIM OFTEN.

You were so close to retirement, I only wish you could have enjoyed some of that time for you deserved it after such a dedicated career to law enforcement. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones.

Hector,
Your kids need you. Be with them in your glory, watch over them while they sleep, they will make you proud, they already have. I'm here for your wife, Gilda. We are bonded through our tragedies, but have become good friends. We will carry each other until you carry us into Heaven.

Sometimes you get the bad guy and sometimes he
gets you.
The shot that killed you also killed a part of us.
It killed a part of your family, both at work and at home.
It killed your dreams, your hopes, your future.
But it must not kill our determination to make this
world a better place or our will to make a difference.
America's streets must be running red with blood with
all the deaths of leos. Every time I come here to leave
a reflection, I feel like my words get emptier and emptier. I am truly
sorry for your loss...a loss too great
for words.

Hey Brother,

I never met you but yesterday, I met your wife, 10 and 11 year old kids. Your wife and us (my wife and I)have a mutual friend. You have great kids, they had a blast with my kids. I wish we could have met under different circumstances. I have to tell you brother that when your family left my house, your son saw my boys (12&10) hug me and tell me " Bye Dad!" (they were spending the night at our mutual friend's house). Your son came up to me and gave me a hug too. He misses you bro!

I know that God had this planned and it doesnt make sense. But if we were to know all that God has planned for us we will live without faith. God needed you in Heaven to fulfill your duties as a peacekeeper. Thank you for your service and may you continiue to uphold the mighty laws of our dear Lord!!

Hector, it seems like just yesterday I was responding to a report of shots fired at an elementary school. Just so you know, we (officers from the Edgewood Independent School District Police Department) were ordered to not go to the area. All we knew was there were kids in danger and we felt we had to respond. We secured our campus not knowing that you had made the ultimate sacrifice only feet away from us. When we were told you were gone...it took everything we had to "hold the line" and keep doing our jobs. We only crossed paths a few times but I just want to thank you for the time you helped me out with the three guys trying to run over some of my students. You will always be remembered...God Bless.

As a twenty-seven year veteran of law enforcement, I find the death of Patrolman Hector Garza too close to home. This is something that can happen to any one of us regardless of the community we serve. A word of warning to all you young guys who think you are invincible. My heart goes out his family and friends, along with my prayers .

Rest in Peace!

To a friend I've never met: I never knew you, but I've lost three partners since 1983 and anytime one of us falls, it hurts us all. If you're a "real" cop, you can't help but feel the pain. I know that one day we will all be together and the "thin blue line" we've all been a part of will be thick once more. Thank-you Garza for choosing the path so few do. Thank you for having the courage to serve America. You will be missed by all, especially those who make up this ever so "thin blue line".

P.S. Patrolman Garza, please say hello to Lt. Fred McLain, Sgt. James Bevis, and Capt. Robbie Bishop. All former partners who've gone before you. And one more thing . . . keep the ranks open, we'll all meet in heaven "one day".

Once again we hear of an Officer who made the ultimate sacrifice. My deepest sympathy to the Garza family. A great man once said "Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay his life for a friend." Officer Hector Garza has joined our unforgetable brothers in blue and is now patrolling heaven's streets. God bless the Garza family and our prayers are with you.
