"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

It has been over 5 years. This is the first time that I have opened up with my feelings since the day we burried you. I think of you a lot everyday. The people that did this to you got away with a slap on the wrist. One day they will pay! We all go to work everyday with your thought in the back of our minds. We miss you and love you.

REST IN PEACE BROTHER

THE POLICEMAN’S LAST ROLE CALL

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain’t. Because those of us who carry badges can’t always be a Saint. I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I’ve been violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept many unmanly tears. I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around except to calm their fear. If you’ve a place for me Lord, it needn’t be so grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don’t, I’ll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As the policeman waited quietly, for the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, policeman, you’ve borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven’s streets, you’ve done your time in hell

Jimmy- Our family still speaks of you often; as if you were still here. After 5 years it's still a common occurrance to meet a complete stranger and have them tell us what a great guy you were. We already knew that, but to be reminded often from strangers what a positive impact you had on them and how they remember your character so vividly is wonderful. I always have and always will be proud to be your cousin. LOVE YOU!!! Meghan

To Officer James William Naim and his loved ones:

On this the fifth anniversary week of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart goes out to your family. You’re in our thoughts and our prayers.

Officer Naim, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Officer James Naim. I am humbled by your valor and dedication.

I am disappointed that the despicable coward who shot you four times from the back did not receive the most severe verdict from the jury.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Officer Naim gave to his community and the citizens of Pennsylvania, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 15, 2001.

It has been 5 years since your were called away. Such a senseless loss and numerous broken hearts left behind. I know you were living your life long dream, being a cop. You have not been forgotten and are a true hero. Keep watch over those still on patrol and especially your family who I know think of you every hour of every day, even if after 5 years.

Officer Naim
Jim, When I had you in the academy, never did I think that this would happen. Although each of us knew it could,we prayed it didn't. I remember you as a student who was always questioning. And that was good. I felt you had a long career coming. Rest in peace knowing that what time you did have made an impression on those you served and served with. That is maybe the best any of us can wish for. To have made an impact on our communities. Rest in peace my brother and may god be with you.

Remembering you on the 3rd anniversary of your death. Because of
all the nice comments about you, I know you are greatly missed and
had the respect and admiration not just of family, but also friends and
co-workers. May God comfort all those who are still grieving your
passing. Life is difficult at times and the Lord Jesus wants to help carry
our burdens. He gives us many beautiful promises in His Word to help us
through our valleys. I pray you will feel His presence and know His
peace. God bless!

Brother Naim, although we never spoke but passed in the court house halls with a professional nod, there isn't a day that has gone by that I don't think of you and this cowardly act by the suspects in custody. Our Department's are only 10 miles apart, this could easily have happend in my Department. You will never be forgotten in this Officers heart. Please shine down on us all and help guide us. we will miss you brother.

Acting Police Chief

This department has suffered a great loss. It is in hind sight that I now realize that this fallen officer was not only a partner but also a friend. Throughout his career he cared not only for the citizens of the community but also for his brothers in the department. This was made clear by recent conversations about his concern for the officers safety that were on the "hit list". I had never known just how lucky I was to have a friend like him. Jimmy will always have a special place in my heart and I have dedicated my efforts to him.

Always in my thoughts,
John

In The Simple Performance Of Duty

In the simple performance of duty,

he pinned on a badge,

checked his gear with great practiced eye,

and kissed his loved ones goodbye.

In the simple line of duty,

he reported for work,

joked with his buddies at roll call,

and made his last trip down the squadroom hall.

In the simple performance of duty,

he answered the call

to help the helpless, to find the lost,

no matter the danger or how great the cost.

In the simple line of duy,

he lay down his life,

for those in peril he tried to save,

our brave friend went to his grave.

In the simple line of duty,

we honor his deed.

Long after the world has forgotten,

we shall never forget.

Never judge or regret what he did,

in the simple line of duty.

We have lost a brother,

but In Valor There Is Hope.

Jimmy will be deeply missed.
