Reflections for Border Patrol Agent Daniel Miles James, Jr.

Agent James,
I just left a reflection for you but I realized I didn’t type your name correctly. On today, the 20th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country.

Miles, I have been thinking of you lately. I am teaching at FLETC now and saw your name engraved on that marble statue. You were a kind man and helped me through the academy so long ago! I wouldn't be here without your help. I thank you. God Bless you and to your family!

I visit here often just to try to grasp the loss of my son. Today was no different. Except that while hurting inside, I decided to see what this day was like in history. I came across your EOW. Now that I’m the President of West Texas C.O.P.S, I see things a bit different. To honor my son on a daily bases, I now honor you and others who have given the ultimate sacrifice. I pray that your family finds peace and know that we are now all family. Thank you for your service. We’ll be here for your parents, siblings, coworkers children’s, spouse and another’s whom are effected by the loss. You honored your county, now we’ll remember and honor you forever. RIP

Miles, I periodically reflect on how much it hurt to see your kids right after you passed away. I feel that I should have been there or not had traded those work days with you. Somehow, as your journeyman and good friend I feel I failed you and your family. I carry your Fallen Hero/Silent Partner card with me every day at work. Continue to rest easy and I know you have my watching over me from heaven.

Miles. I'm sorry it took me so long to find this page. I'll never forget being at the checkpoint when we heard you had lost the struggle. I had the honor of lowering the flag. I think about you often and you will always be an inspiration.

I still remember the phone conversation on January 28,2001. Talking about coming down to Freer Texas. I still remember the telephone call on January 29 while I was at work. It broke my heart to come down there and see you at the hospital. Was so mad with God to let this happen. Then I realized God kept you going so I could see you. Love you always your dad.

Miles: I'm sorry I am a few days late with this reflection. I retired last July after serving 31 years as a LEO and I showed your photo at my retirement luncheon. Why? Because I wanted you to have a retirement luncheon too. I will always remember you and pray for your family each and every day. I miss you. RIP my brother.

Agent James, there are not enough words in the English language to express the importance of your job. There are not enough ways to say thank you, to you and all those employed by the Border Patrol. You are heroes all, but when giving your life for your job becomes the case, you hold a special place in all our hearts. On this 9th anniversary of your tragic death, I wish to convey my deepest sympathy to those who miss you most. I know you have never truly left them.

God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.
