I was working for Bexar County S.O. when you were taken from us. I personally helped book in the individual who took your life. I will never forget the overwhelming desire to hurt him that I felt the entire time I dealt with him in the process. I am now a firearms instructor for the US Border Patrol and I think about your passing every time I teach a class. You are gone but will never be forgotten. I hope that you can look in on me from time to time until we meet. God Bless!

I miss you my brother. I miss all the fun times and our talks and I just miss my big brother. I know it's 12 years but it still seems like yesterday. The tears still flow but are just more manageable. I am thankful for the great relationship we had. You gave me a lot of great stories to share with Victoria and Little Rocky. They love it when we share stories about you. It's good to see them laugh because I know they continue to miss you even though your time with them was short. But dont worry, as a family, we will continue to share your legacy with them. They have grown up to be really great kids. They are smart and funny. You would be really proud of them. Sandra has done a phenomenal with them. She misses you; we all do. Thank you for everything you taught me; you still are teaching me life lessons. Love you my brother and Friend.

I never had the pleasure of knowing Rocky, but his passing has had a lasting affect on me. Rocky passed 2 days before I started with my department. His funeral was the first, and unfortunately won't be last officer funeral I will attend. I still remember being in awe of the number of officers present to celebrate your life and recognize your sacrifice.
Your memory lives on, especially with your brothers on SWAT.
You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.

Rocky

Sorry it took me so long to find this website. I had to write a reflection for you. I just wanted to thank you for the time I got to share with you. I enjoyed our times sparring at the academy. You were pretty good. You could take a good shot as well as dish out a stronger one. You showed great heart and determination. Good times. Your passing caused me to recheck my style of fighting. I dove into grappling and submission arts for the next five years. Now my fighting is greatly enhanced. Thank you! Now I’m doing mixed martial arts and fighting in the professional heavyweight ranks. I’m still undefeated!!! I’m a little old for such a young man’s game but I love having the odds against me and overcoming them. I have hit that turning point where I could one day be competing with the best in the world in the U.F.C. God blessed me with you crossing my path in life. I am very thankful. 2013 will be my year! Watch my climb to success and know you played a part in it. You are missed! I am still amazed at how you touched people’s hearts in our community. People were standing at the curbs on every street we drove down during your procession. It was a proud feeling I will never forget. I wish I had video of it so I could pass it on to the young cadets I teach. It will be something I will always cherish. As well as something I will always strive for. Thanks!!!

Patrolman Riojas,
As another summer draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the time I spent at camp this year. I was again lucky enough to mentor in your daughters cabin and spent some time with your wife and son. What an amazing and loving family. Your daughter is a bright, kind, witty and beautiful young woman. Please continue to watch over us all. Your memory and sacrifice is never forgotten.

You never did let us forget your birthday. How ironic to find this website today. Happy Birthday big brother. Your still the best big brother I could have ever had. I love you and miss you. We all do. We still have good and bad days but know you are watching over all of us. We were telling the kids stories about you last weekend at moms... we were laughing until we couldn't breathe... those were good times and great memories. :) Love you, Landa

Patrolman Riojas,

I was honored to spend this past week with your family. Your wife is an amazing woman, so kind, caring and so very compassionate. Your children honor your memory and sacrifice, and are so proud of you. I have no doubt that they will do great things and make so many positive contributions just as you did. Your daughter has a gentle soul and is clever and funny. They are being so loved and cherished by your wife.

Thank you for your dedication to your community and the profession, you will never be forgotten. May God hold you close while you watch over your family and those who continue the watch. God Bless

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

To the family and friends of Patrolman Rocky Riojas and his fellow officers:

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to pay honor to Rocky's memory on the eighth anniversary of the day he so tragically lost his life. His heroism, valor and bravery will be forever remembered.

May you be continue to be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you. Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot in April of 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, so we know the anquish you are still experiencing.

Please know that the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement and police survivors will always be by your side on each step of the journey.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the years of service Rocky gave to his community and the citizens of Texas, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 3, 2001.
