NEVER FORGOTTEN!
On Saturday, January 13, 2001, Detective Doug Jacobs, III of the Riverside California Police Department, was shot and killed when he was ambushed after he and another officer responded to a noise complaint. The officers were interviewing two of the individuals, a mother and son, on an outside staircase when a second son exited the residence and opened fire on them with a 9 mm handgun. One of the two rounds struck Detective Jacobs in the head. The murderer re-entered his residence and attempted to load a rifle, which jammed. The coward surrendered moments later. The murderer was convicted of several charges, including the murder of Detective Jacobs. The jury recommended a sentence of death. Detective Jacobs is survived by his wife, six-month-old daughter, and ten-year-old stepson. God bless you and your family Detective Jacobs. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
Please keep Detective Jacobs and his family in your thoughts and prayers on this sad anniversary.

NEVER FORGOTTEN!
Today, January 13th, is the18th anniversary of the cruel, cowardly and senseless murder of a fine young police officer, Doug Jacobs, III. Doug was a loving and devoted husband and father and cherished son. His family has been devastated by his loss. To this day California’s heartless and dysfunctional criminal justice system has prolonged the suffering of Doug’s family and friends with endless litigation and unwarranted concern for the worthless piece of human filth responsible for taking Doug’s life. The name of the person who took his life is unimportant. What is important is the way that Det. Jacobs lived. He was a loving husband and father. He was a hardworking and dedicated Police Officer, a credit to his family and his community. Please keep Det. Jacobs, his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.

Doug you were and always will be a great friend and colleague. I was just about to get off duty when I heard your beat partner put out an 11-99, officer down/needs assistance call. I remember feeling my heart sink to the pit of my stomach, thinking, I had just talked with you a few minutes earlier. You couldn't have been the officer that was down and in need of assistance. I remember, throwing my vest, uniform and police gear back on as quick as I could and jumping into a police unit and rolling code-3 to your location. When I arrived, I saw the paramedics brining you down a flight of stairs from the top of the second story residence/duplex. I couldn't believe it was you laying on the ambulance stretcher. I had tears rolling down my face trying to keep my composure. But it was hard I couldn't stop crying. I said, a quick prayer to god that you would be ok, but he had other plans for you on that fateful day. I want to thank you for being such a good friend and a great police officer that had great tact and judgment while performing your duties as a law en-for cement officer. Thank you for backing me up on a lot of my traffic enforcement stops and assisting me with numerous arrests in the downtown area of Riverside Ca. A lot of the officers from the college still miss you because you didn't treat us different. God speed, I will see you one day on the other side.

Doug we were LAPD Reserve classmates in 1988. I left LA and lost touch with everyone until this week when we had a 10-88R "reunion." Only then did I learn of your ultimate sacrifice. Heaven needs good cops to guard the perimeter - take care brother.

Dougie,

Not a day rolls by that I don't think about all of the good times we had as young cops, both on and off duty. Even though you were taken from us almost 13 years ago, I can remember it like it was yesterday. Miss you my brother -

Hey Doug....I just wanted to drop a note and let you know I thinking about you. It seems like yesterday that we were in the academy and then working as partners at CJ dealing with those savages. Miss you brother.

It's NPW and Rachel and I did not go to DC this year. You are on my mind. Nick is home from Afghanistan and is stationed at Ft. Lewis. He wants to be like you Doug. He is turning into a great young man. Rachel will be 13 this month. She misses you. I see you when I look at her eyes. She is a joy. I try to imagine you with her. Your mom, Rachel and I are going to the RPD Gala next weekend. We stick together. We will never forget.

Your sacrifice, at the hand of a coward, honors you, your department, your chosen vocation, your service, family and friends, your community and the larger law enforcement community. I pray that your family, colleagues, friends and community continue to heal, remember and honor you.

Now the community and your department must deal with another similar cowardly act resulting in the loss of one Riverside Officer and the serious wounding of another. My thoughts and prayers are with these most recent victims, their families and friends, the department and the community.

Continue to Rest in Peace - and welcome another Riverside hero in the next Life.

Well Doug it is 12 years later. Watch C and available Watch B units formed up and drove to the cemetery where your family and friends were gathered. The units drove quietly with lights rotating - in a dignified and respectful tribute to you. There was one white dove near your grave - it stayed there the entire time we were there.

You would have pretty close to 18 years here now - and no doubt I would be working for you.

We all miss you my friend.

See you soon.
