Reflections for Detective Charles D. "Doug" Jacobs, III

It's NPW and Rachel and I did not go to DC this year. You are on my mind. Nick is home from Afghanistan and is stationed at Ft. Lewis. He wants to be like you Doug. He is turning into a great young man. Rachel will be 13 this month. She misses you. I see you when I look at her eyes. She is a joy. I try to imagine you with her. Your mom, Rachel and I are going to the RPD Gala next weekend. We stick together. We will never forget.

Your sacrifice, at the hand of a coward, honors you, your department, your chosen vocation, your service, family and friends, your community and the larger law enforcement community. I pray that your family, colleagues, friends and community continue to heal, remember and honor you.

Now the community and your department must deal with another similar cowardly act resulting in the loss of one Riverside Officer and the serious wounding of another. My thoughts and prayers are with these most recent victims, their families and friends, the department and the community.

Continue to Rest in Peace - and welcome another Riverside hero in the next Life.

Well Doug it is 12 years later. Watch C and available Watch B units formed up and drove to the cemetery where your family and friends were gathered. The units drove quietly with lights rotating - in a dignified and respectful tribute to you. There was one white dove near your grave - it stayed there the entire time we were there.

You would have pretty close to 18 years here now - and no doubt I would be working for you.

We all miss you my friend.

See you soon.

Love, Chuck and Michele Griffitts

Doug it's been 12 years since you was taken from all of us! I'm most saddened for your beautiful daughter Rachel this past summer Rachel and Cheyenne was able to go on vacation together in myrtle beach S.C. I'm sure you was watching and smiling over them both. Since. My last reflection I have since been laid off and had to go in to corrections, however I only hope to someday return to the streets, and try to walk in the shadows of (HEROS) such as you.

Doug, I met your beautiful daughter Rachel and beautiful wife Tammy recently. They are beautiful souls, as I'm sure you were as well. You have been a big influence in my husband's life and you will never be forgotten. RIP Doug and please continue to watch over that precious not-so-little-anymore girl, Rachel.

Thinking of you today. Nick is home on leave before he is deployed to Afghanistan. He took Rachel to the cemetary yesterday. That touched me. They are growing up. You are not forgotten and never will be. Love ALWAYS 193

Well Doug. 11 years last Friday. The PD has changed tremendously but no one forgets who you are. I know if you were still here in body, I would be calling you boss. You had the world at your finger tips now you have the world in the palm of your hands. Thanks for keeping us safe throughout our daily lives.

Doug;

I found a memorial for you on the web, read your story. Read your reflections about you. I lost my dad in 1994 line of duty. Just wanted to say thank you and your family for the sacifice that you gave for us.

I kinda smile as after reading about you and some of the other officers, not in how you died, but in how you lived I am sure some place in heaven my father and you have a great patrol shift.

I could never express what I feel for you and all the other officers that gave you life to protect us. I just hope that the people of Riverside understand how much you gave up to make our community safe.

Thank you Doug, and your family for giving all you had to protect us. As the anniversary of your death approaches I pray for your family.

As we are burying another falllen officer from a gunshot, I can't help but think of what a sad day it was when you were taken from us. Please know you will never be forgotten. Not even here in the Buckeye State. From what I understand you have another Buckeye fan that has joined you

Hey Doug, I don't know where the time has gone, but it has been 9 years already. Yesterday, 02/03/10, I rode in the funeral of Gilbert Police Lt. Eric Shuhandler, who was gunned down on a traffic stop. While leading the procession on my motor, somehow my thoughts turned to you and Deputy Randy Lutz. I was thinking about our Explorer days and started to laugh when I thought about the time you yelled at me for turning on the lights and siren on the black and white during one of our Explorer details. I also thought of all the good times we had in our "teenaged" years. As we arrived at the cemetery, my thoughts turned to your funeral at Harvest and thought about what a good person we lost that day and how we will never forget you brother.

Miss ya man

Your heroism and service is honored today, the ninth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I pray for solace for all those who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

Hi Doug,
January 13th has come around another year... eight years down the road. I think about you often and I am grateful for your time here on earth. You were an outstanding person with amazing character and a lot of talent. You seemed to excel at whatever task you put your mind to. From graduating first in the academy... to being an FTO... to being promoted to the position of Detective... If your life was not cut short, who knows where you would be today... (although, there are not many positions that out rank guardian angel). I want you and your family to know that you are missed... you are appreciated... and you will Never be forgotten.

Rest In Peace...

Doug,I never really had the opportunity to know you as well as i wish i could have,i dont even know tammy like i wish i did. However I have been a police officer in ohio for about three years now, and read youre reflections almost every day just to serve as a reminder that although sometimes our job requires the altimate sacrifice it is a calling and is not one that can go unanswered. I see pictures of rachel on occasion, she is so beautiful and you should be so proud of her. even though our time together here was very brief i still feel it is you in part that has brought me to where i am today.Im sory for taking so long to leave this message (But you know cops and talking about feelings) Thank you for youre influence and sacrifice.
