Your heroism and service is honored today, the eighth anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Two days a memorial was held for your four brothers from Oakland. Our community is mourning their loss that happened on the darkest day in OPD history.

Today we mourn for another Oakland PD tragedy. It again reminds me about you and your family. I remember what a wonderful family you had. I loved taking care of baby William everyday as you and Kely worked. Thanks for allowing me to get to know all three of you. I often think of all of you. Each of you are in my prayers, my memories, and my heart.

I have such fond and treasured memories of you. You were such a light. You were Oakland PD and would come to the Hayward Jail and make us laugh and just brighten the day. You are thought of often and missed so very much. Several years have passed, yet it seems like yesterday. Rest Peacefully Willie.

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

My dearest brother willie...
It's been so long. I miss you so so much... Everywhere I go, by the gift of God I'm always surrounded by people who remind me of you. My supervisors and most co-workers have your personality. I think that's what keeps motivated at work. Sometimes I can't wait to get there so I can feflet on memories that we've shared that I share with them. I mean everything... the farts, the jokes...everything. Thanks for taking good care of me and the rest of your family. Please continue you're our angel... a couple of months ago we had a squadron picnic and of course I was on the baseball team. I played so well and you know how bad I sucked!!!! I played better than the rest of my team... and I'm a girl! I had your jersey on and I was on the ball like white on rice.... you would of been proud!! I'm sure you saw it...I love you and miss you always.

Willie,
I Will never forget when I was a cheerleader and you were the school mascot "Jimmy the colt" and I would have to guide you around the school cause you couldn't see with that big horse head on. You were so funny! You would jump around and make everyone laugh. It came so natural for you. You would take of the head and be covered in sweat. But it never bothered you. As long as you were making people smile, you were happy.
I miss you Willie

The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Willie,

Still miss you bro. You were an inspiration to me and a huge reason I got into law enforcement. Your advice helped keep me safe. Even though I had already moved to Arizona, I jumped on a plane immediately so I could be at your service with all of our other brothers in law enforcement and the National Guard. I will always remember your quick wit and great jokes and making weekend drills fun.

I would just like to send my heart felt Thank you to the Family, Friends, and Fellow Officers of MR. Wilkens. If love could undo what's done, then it would, but it can't. So instead, Just known that there are those in Oakland, and there are many, who appreciate all that he tried to do to eradicate drugs, and all the horrible things that go along with it. I'm just so sorry for what it cost the love ones and ultimately him. Let his son know his father was a good man. Let him know that there are those in Oakland who appreciated his fine efforts and we will forever and always be thankful to him for trying to make this a better place for all of us. WE THANK HIM AND ALL OF OAKLANDS(OPD)FINEST!!!

Thankful Citizen of Oakland

Willie, I remember the jokes you used to tell and the fun we had while in high school. I was in shock and mourning to find out what happened to you. May God bless your family and child and may He keep you in peace.
