Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper John Henry Duncan, Jr.

John, It saddens me deeply to read of a fallen fellow brother.

On 08-31-2000 at 0630 hours I started my watch for the day and learned by the morning news that two fellow Oklahoma officers had fallen, but names were unavailable (OCPD 1162 Jeff Rominger and OHP 895 Matt Evans).

I had a terrible feeling come over me at that point.
Two hours later it felt like my heart stopped when I heard that one of the officers was one of my dearest friends, Jeff Rominger #1162.

To those of you Troopers, whether you were just a fellow Trooper or a close friend to John. I know your hurt and pray that you never have to go through that feeling ever again.
It is a very hard reality to grip and it will take time, lots of time, but just remember they are above, watching over us.

It is very ironic that I came across this page of John's. John's EOW ended about the same as Jeff and Matt's.

Jeff was on his way to assist the very same Trooper that Matt was in route to assist, but Jeff saw something about a car that he had to check out. The bad guy led Jeff eastbound onto I-40 westbound and as fate would have it, after the bad guys car deflected off of Matt's patrol car Matt and Jeff hit head on.

John was there for his brother Trooper as were Jeff and Matt. I never got to know Matt, but I know numerous Troopers that were his friends. You couldn't have met two nicer people as I am quite sure the same can be said about John.

I have spoken with Jeff's mother on numerous occasions and I still don't know what to say or can even think of a simple word of comfort as for the same for John's wife, but from what I have read from the other reflections, she sounds like a very strong hearted woman.

Mrs. Trooper John H. Duncan my heart goes out to you and your family, you are in my heart and in my prayers.

Jeff has a young son, and he is a very strong hearted young man, and I am quite certain your children will grow to be if they are not already very strong hearted.

John made the ultimate sacrifice, he gave his life for his fellow Trooper and fellow man. John 15:13

My heart goes out to all of John's family.
