Reflections for Trooper John Henry Duncan, Jr.

I am a former Trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. I attended Patrol School with Trooper Duncan and he is a brother to me. Trooper Duncan was a fine example of what is expected of a North Carolina State Trooper. I love and miss him dearly!

John was a great trooper. He was kind to all and took a great deal of pride in both his work and his family. We all miss him greatly.

Cpl. Matt Hurley
Cumberland County Sheriff's Office

John,

The day you passed was particularly hard for me. I was talking with my best friend on the phone and asked if he had heard the news. Basically I was the one who told him about your tragedy. He had attended the 99th basic with you. During that time I felt as if I knew you personaly due to the hours of talking that we did.
I had taken him to the memorial service on that rainy day and I was so overwhelmed with emotion. Your Family was soo strong!
I'm sure you are missed greatly but you will rejoin your friends and family one day.
God Bless You And Your Family

I noticed that there are not as many reflections on your page, John, but that is not any reflection of your importance, simply a case of bad timing with the re-doing of the reflection pages on this website.

I knew you only by reputation, and you could not have had a better one. Your wife was amazingly strong while she was in the public eye, you should be proud. God Bless you and your family each and every day.

And don't worry, we got the bad guy, too.

Trp. D.C. Pate
NC State Highway Patrol

I will never forget his wonderful personality. You could be down or upset and when John would walk in the room with his big bright smile you would just automatically cheer up. I was working that day and when I heard the news I broke down into tears. He was such a wonderful man. He loved his family more than anything. He was extremely proud of them. We all miss you so much, Duncan!

I was watching T.V. when it came over the news. I could not believe another fellow Trooper had died in this state. Your wife was so strong you would have been proud. You served your country and your state well. Rest in Peace John you will be missed!

This reflection is very hard for me to write because it is being written about someone who I grew up with.

This is for family and friends of John Duncan.
I am writing about someone that I grew up wanting to be like, someone who was a very much a role model for when I used to get in trouble. John's mother and my mother are very good friends and have been since we were kids and my heart goes out to his mother and sister . I TRIED TO DO THE THINGS THAT HE DID TO MAKE MY MOM AS PROUD OF ME AS HIS MOM IS PROUD OF HIM. You will be missed and keep looking out for S. Duncan and for me.

We all miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU FOR SO MUCH. YOU WERE A BLESSED MAN.

Trooper Duncan you will be missed. I pray that God be with your family and helps ease their pain. you were apart of the most elite departments there are, that tells what caliber of person you were. I have great respect for the North Carolina Highway Patrol. I work closely with diffrent troopers in the performance of my duties and I know the sacrifices that you made on a daliy basis I just wish you did not have to make the ultimate sacrifice. God bless you and be with your family

I have much respect for Trp. Duncan. Even though i did not know him it still hurts me to see him get killed like that in a Traffic Collision just because some idiot didnt want a Traffic Ticket!! I one day hope to be a part of the NC Higway Patrol Family i am 13 years old and my dreams been being a Trooper since i was little. And one day i hope to accomplish that. And Everyday I have Respect for all the Troopers and Police Officers Out there today trying to make the world a better place. I just want to say Thx you all very much. Much Respect to Trooper Duncan's Family. God Bless you All!
