Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper John Gregory Mann

Trooper Mann, I saw you at a Trooper Graduation back in 2000. You was in the Honor Guard. May I say you were the picture of Pride and Honor. I remember that night. I was working. Immediately it came to my mind who you were and where I had seen you. I wish I had know you. It is always a joy to meet an officer who takes that great pride in his job and his uniform. That officer that wants to always be a shining example of professionalism with excellent behavior. You obviously possessed all those traits. You certainly were a Great Credit to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
In Rememberance of you service to the State Of TENNESSEE and to Honor your Memory.

-Just one of the Dispatcher, whos heart stops, when something like this happens. Officer in Trouble, Officer Down, are two things that a Dispatcher never, ever wants to hear.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

John, I just was thinking about you and I wanted to give you another visit. You are never far from my thoughts and since the last time I visited you, I went on the road as a Sheriffs Deputy Reserve up home in Jackson County TN, and I never started a shift without thinking of you and the one thing that I made my self do when the sheriff asked me to go on the road was, I had to hold myself up to you. I would always make sure that my uniform was as sharp as I could make it. I remember the way that you wore your uniform and everything that you stood for, and I wanted to be just like you my friend. Well John I have since went back to work for the Dept Of Safety, and I still think of you every day. I can still remember the night that you were on a DUI Roadblock and I was in dispatch and you asked me if I had any info on your subject, and I was covered and I made a slip up on the radio, and you called and we had a good laugh. John I miss you and ask that you keep watching over all of us....Robin

Trooper Mann the 5 year anniversary date that you left this world to be in a much happier place has just past. We are told in God's Word that We can't even imagine how wonderful Heaven will be - in faith I believe this - being here yet it is hard to come to grips with the idea that there is a happier place because we are selfish and want our loved ones here with us.. My Son is there - hope you have met, he to is a wonderful person and also greatly missed. Rest in peace and I pray that God continue to give comfort to your family, friends and co-workers.

Trooper Mann,

I was on a nearby highway that early morning, traveling to and from work. It has been 5 years, but I have not forgotten. Losing an Officer is something you don't forget.

I wish peace for your family, peace in knowing your work was important and necessary, and that you were dedicated to that work. Thank you for your service and sacrifice...

In loving memory of Trooper John
Mann: It has been 5 years today and
I just read the reflections. There weren't many, but what lacked in quantity was made up in quality. It 's easy to see you were a man of high
integrity and self-respect. What the
courts did to you was a total injustice.
To think you gave your life for so little
in return. Shame, shame. But you
are in Heaven and all the bad & sad
days are behind you now. You WILL
get your reward in due time and I will
look forward to meeting you and Jesus when my bad and sad days are over. Life here on earth is NOT
fair, but for the followers of Jesus Christ, this life here is as bad as it
gets! PTL! One day,we will weep no more! Well done, John Mann!

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, January 1, 2006 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Trooper John Gregory Mann who died in the line of duty on this date five years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Trooper Mann’s sacrifice will never be forgotten.

~~~~~The Broken Chain~~~~~
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.~~In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.~~It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.~~You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.~~Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the Chain will link again.
