Reflections for Police Officer Aubrey Wright Hawkins

Well Aubrey, it was 5 years ago tonight that Brownie called me at home and told me you were gone. My family had been at my house for Christmas Eve dinner and were walking out the door when I got the call.
Just a few days prior you were working the seat belt overtime grant. It was about lunch time when Steve Hillary and I were driving down O'connor Rd. and saw you had a car stopped. The driver was standing outside of his car and appeared to be agitated over the ticket. We stopped to check on you. You said everything was fine and added, "He'll be alright."
You were a gentle soul. That's how I remember you. It was an honor to have known you.
I've since retired but there's some things a guy never forgets. It is my prayer that God keeps safe from harm my fellow officers of the Irving Police Department.

Today as I started my shift I told my partner who is about to get off felid traning about you. I then prayed for you and for all the other officers who were working, praying that we all made it home safe. Although I was not a police officer ath the time, I remember the day you passed away. Merry Christmas brother. God bless you and your family.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, December 24, 2005 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Police Officer Aubrey Wright Hawkins who died in the line of duty on this date five years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Hawkins' sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Although it has been almost five years now, we have not forgotten the sacrifice you made. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family, friends and the officers of the Irving P.D. Godspeed blue warrior, we'll see you on the other side.

Dear Officer Hawkins,
It chilled my blood to hear the news back then of your encounter with those evil bottom feeders. It gives me chills to this day. Having pulled up, only to realize what a terrible predicament you were in. And, to have these selfish, vicious career criminals snuff out such a good man. So often this world makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I'm sure that you were looking so forward to spending Christmas the following day with family and friends. Such a holy time, only to be shattered by unbelievable tragedy.
My heartfelt sympathies go out to your loving wife, son, family, and friends.
Rest in heavenly peace my brother.

I was at the time Officer Hawkins was slain a rookie only a couple years into the profession. When my department learned of the prison break all Officers were put on high alert. Prior to the shooting of Officer Hawkins, the same suspects robbed a store in Pearland, TX just the next town away from us and then I learned that Officer Hawkins had been slain. I wanted to say to Officer Hawkins thank you for your service and watch after your boys in "Blue". May GOD bless you and your family is in my prayers. Rest in Peace.

I had the pleasure of meeting Aubrey on a few occassions because he worked with my dad at Harris Hosp. in Ft. Worth. I will always remember that he was smiling ervery time I saw him. It always hurts when an officer is killed, but it's much worse when you have met someone and sat and talked with them. I will never forget Aubrey and the sacrifice he made almost 5 years ago. My dad and I still talk about him and keep him, and his family, in our prayers.
God Bless You, Aubrey

Not a day goes by that I don't think of Ofc. Hawkins. It is not how he died that makes him a hero...........it's how he lived. God Bless his family, friends and fellow officers. We still remember.............

Even though some time has passed I can still remember the events surrounding this fine officers murder. I am so sorry for his family, co-workers and friends. I pray that God will continue to grant you all the strength you need for another day. Thank God the Texas justice system has given the appropriate sentences to these animals!

I remember the first day I met Aubrey in the IPD station. I asked his name and as he shook my hand he said in a slow drawl, "Aubrey Hawkins". I said, "Son, that sounds like a character on the Andy Griffith Show." We both laughed. That's how I remember Aubrey. A warm smile and friendly spirit. He spirit is still very much alive.

It is feb 15 2005 and i still remember that awful night. I was a Rookie Explorer when all this took place. i remember thinking that this is why i want to be a police officer, to apprehend the criminals you could do such a thing. Lori, i just want you to know that even those who aren't police officers or related to officers understand the Great loss which you feel. i was never fortunate to meet Aubrey but understand that he was an Explorer too. Being an Explorer you get to see all the emotions officers feel. Any time some one mentions anything negative about a police officer I always remind them that they put their lives on the line to protect you, so how can you say anything like that. My Condolences are still with your family and always will be.

I have never forgotten your face; I always thought you looked like such a nice man. I don't know why exactly, but your picture came to me in a dream lastnight. You now have the ability to touch us all. I hope your family is well.

Thank you for your service to our community

Aubrey,

We never had the opportunity to meet but my husband was not only a former co-worker but one of your closest friends. Not a day goes by that you aren't thought of or talked about. Karl often smiles and laughs when telling stories of the escapades you two shared while on patrol! Rest assured that justice is being served and we will always be here for Lori, your mom and Andrew.

I know you watch over Karl each and every night he's on patrol. Rest in peace my friend.

Even though it's been several years since we worked our last shift together, I still find myself thinking about you and your family. I'm blessed to have known you. You were so very kind and professional both in your work and with us, your dispatchers. I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to talk to you face to face one last time, but I remember the many times you made me smile and made my job much more enjoyable. I learned a lot as a person, and as your dispatcher that night, but I will always remember, more than anything else, the wonderful person you were. You, Lori, and Andrew are still in my prayers.
