Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Aubrey Wright Hawkins

Aubrey,

I still think of you so often, I also think of our friend, James Burns who recently went to be with the Lord due to leukemia. We all had so much fun together while at St Paul Medical Center Police Department during the 90's! It broke my heart that our agency was eliminated when UT at Southwest took over St Paul and was eventually torn down a few years later. So many fond memories there!!! We were a close family. I'll here some say I wish I can go back in time to relive the good times again and undo certain events, but we all know that is impossible!! All we can do is press forward and cherish the good memories!! Can't believe it has been almost 19 years since we lost you!! Miss you Aubrey, and you too Lori and James!!!

This last Thursday I had a BBQ at my office about a mile away from where Aubrey was murdered. We had 9 officers from IPD join us for BBQ. Great men and women. Many who knew Aubrey and had served with him.

Even though it’s been 18 years since your EOW, you will never be forgotten. Heros like Aubrey are never forgotten. May God Bless Aubrey’s family.

And a fourth was executed tonight, Garcia. As soon as the article mentioned your name I remembered. Eighteen years later I remembered and I am sure many others have not forgotten you and your family. You were murdered on Christmas eve. Contrary to the comment from Mr. Garcia, we know exactly what we are doing buddy. We administer justice, Old Testament style.

I never knew you or your family but every year at this time you come to mind. I have prayed for your family through the years. I can only imagine how painful it is. Once again I want to thank you for your sacrifice in order to protect and to serve. Over the past 40+ years in law enforcement I have had friends that also give their life as you did. I pray that someday we will meet in a far better place. I salute you and your family. You live on in our hearts.

I will never forget that horrible day. At the age of 20 years old, I was glued to the television watching the events unfold. I felt so guilty spending time with my family knowing that your family wouldn't get to see you on Christmas morning. I had such a heavy heart for several days. Thank you for service, Brother. Your life still matters and your legacy will live on.

I don't even see why your killers are appealing due to the near impossibility of getting a death sentence commuted in texas. At least the leader of the group and I think 1 other decided to be honorable by waiving their appeals and apologizing at their executions. The other guys who murdered you are only delaying the inevitable by appealing.

Hard to believe it has been 15 years. While our family was home warm making Christmas memories, just a few miles away this terrible, senseless act was going down. I will leave our Christmas Eve service this evening and drive past the memorial site just like I do each year. RIP Officer Hawkins. Your sacrifice is not forgotten.

One more of your murderers was put to death today. Just a little closer to justice being served. May your spirit rest in peace.

Justice delayed is not justice denied. Hopefully the execution of this monster will help bring a little bit of closure and healing to the family, friends, and co-workers of this hero. I salute you, Officer Hawkins! You will FOREVER be a hero and will NEVER be forgotten!
