Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Richard Eric Weinhold

I would like to offer my prayers to the family and department in this terriable time.  I am also a LEO trainer and we will surely feel the loss of such a talented man in imparting the knowlege to keep other Officer's alive.

God Bless and keep all who wear the badge…

Rick was my friend.  He was an individual you could talk to and know you were not going to be judged.  He was a good Police Officer, father and friend. Sgt. Rick Weinhold is a true American hero.  I am glad for the  brief time he was a part of my life.  I will never forget him or what he did.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Sergeant Weinhold.  I am saddened by the tragidy.  I want to assure the department and family that you will all be in my prayers tonight.

Rick was the true hero.  When a young officer started up the stairs, Rick, a sergeant, stopped him and said, "I'll go first".  Moments later, a cowardly gunman jumped from behind the top of the stairwell and fired a shotgun, loaded with deer slugs, down the narrow stairway.  Rick never had a chance.  But his selfless actions speak to the type of man he was; dedicated, caring and courageous.

Rick was a devoted family man to his wife and four young children, and spoke about them whenever he could.  He was a scout leader, played in his church's band and coached basketball.  Rick was many things to many people, but a friend to all who knew him.  In 1999, he was selected as "Instructor of the Year" while teaching at the St. Louis County Police Academy, beating out over 500 other instructors from across Missouri.

Rick may be gone, but the lives he touched go on.  The mission he started will continue.  Rick is at peace and with his God.  I can't wait to see him again...

Mr. Weinhold was a good man. He never did anything to hurt anyone, he would do what he could to help them. He was very devoted to his family, church, and scouts. I remember when he asked me to help him teach cub scouts to his son and my brother, who are the same age. I was glad to help, he was fun to work with. It's still hard to imagine the thought of him gone. I was with him on a camping trip this past weekend, and now 2 days later he's gone. I remember the last thing he said to me." That was a great campfire you built last night Dan!" Now he's gone.

We're gonna miss you Rick!

Rick was my friend and brother in Christ. I last spoke to him the day before the shooting. He taught me how a man could be gentle when dealing with people that have broken the law.
Rick worked secondary at Chuck E. Cheese's where I was the G.M. We dicussed books that we had been reading on how to be an HONORABLE MAN.
The house where Rick was shot is less than a mile from my home. I drive by it almost everyday. It reminds me that life is short and good friends are more precious than I can express in words.
I miss Rick and will use what he taught me in his honor.

Rick was more than a Supervisor. He was a friend. I'll miss you Rick.

To all that read this, this officer gave the ultimate sacrifice. He was a fellow officer and one of my instructors while I attended the police academy. He deserved every award and was known for the great kindness he displayed to everyone. Along with thanking all military personnel that have given their lives to allow us to be free, I constantly take time to reflect on my fallen brothers, who have sacrificed their lives to protect others.
Be safe.
