Reflections for Corporal Theodore Joseph "Ted" Foss

On Monday May 15, 2023, I was given the honor to stand guard at the Minnesota Peace Officer Memorial, toll the bell, and recognize Corporal Foss. The memory of Corporal Foss lives on by saving countless lives of first responders. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.

To the family of Corporal Foss, my sincere condolences. I pray you can find comfort in knowing the legacy and impact your husband/father/son has had on law enforcement families in Minnesota.

15 years ago I lost you. Time hasn't made the hurt I feel go away, I continue to keep your name and memory alive, by promoting the "Ted Foss Move Over Law". It's been 15 years since we lost you...I miss you like it was yesterday. It's bittersweet to take part in all the events that people work so hard to plan and hold to make sure your memory is always kept alive. The dignity and respect that is shown, is a reflection of the man and trooper you were. You would be so humbled. My life was forever changed the day we lost you, I will always miss you as I remember the life you lived. Love, Ramona

You are never far from our thoughts. We miss you, and the tears still flow, when we think of you and remember the times when we were together...now you share those times with dad and your brothers Paul and Eric. As long as we have memories, you will always be in our hearts. We remember you everyday, and especially on August 31...the day our lives were forever changed when you left. You are forever in our hearts and missed so very much...Love to you, Ted...

Today is your birthday, and just like everyday, I think about you. We miss you and the life you gave to our family. Your life and death have made a difference in so many lives and so many honor you and the contribution your life made in theirs. The "Ted Foss Move Over Law" is the duty of all drivers in your honor, and for every public servant who works our roadways and gives their time unconditionally. You are so missed and thought of so often, remembered today, as we honor the day you were born to us, reflect on your beautiful life, and mourn the day you left us...Forever in our hearts....Love to you...

Ted, I think of you so very often, all of the life you were cheated out of. Watching your children grow up to be adults, maybe marry and maybe even have some grandchildren for you to spoil. As do I with my grandchildren. :)
It's been 13 years, but it still seems like only just yesterday when my good friend Doug Klatt (Goodhue Co. Deputy) stopped into my office to give me the grave news. We both cried, as he knew Ted also.

We will Remember, that horrible day August 31,2000 that changed the lives for so many forever.

Please, "Move Over for Ted"..

Corporal Foss,

I think about you every time I see a law enforcement officer stopped on the side of the road. While I didn't know you personally, my dad is a MN State Trooper. You will always be in my heart, and your family will always be in my prayers.

I did not know Trooper Ted Foss but did know his mother. So I"m puting up a memorial at the Lewiston exit where he was killed. I have put other ones in the past and some one has taken them down. So this year I'm building a bigger one.

I was thinking about you on the 10th anniversary of your death. I'm sorry no one posted. You were a good trooper and my family really liked you. I hope you are sitting up there sharing a cup of coffee with my mom. She missed you and finally went to meet you a few years back. I hope your family is getting by OK. I bet your kids miss you like no other.

I did not know Trooper Foss, but I knew his wife and knew of him from my time attending college in the community in which they lived. I had been an officer for less than a year when Trooper Foss died. I attended his funeral which had a tremendous impact on the officer that I have become. I think of Trooper Foss often even though more than seven years has passed. His sacrifice serves as a constant reminder to work safe and train new officers to work safe as well. The "move-over" law that was created as a result of this tragedy and bears his name will and has undoubtedly saved lives. Thank you for your service Trooper Foss. You will never be forgotten.
