Reflections for Sergeant Carlton Daniel Jenkins

Hey Sergeant Dan!
We still miss you down here! Thanks for the reminder that you're still around! Watch over us all as you did when you were here on duty at the SO.
Thanks for your friendship!

The years seem to keep going by, but you are still in my thoughts and prayers all the time. It only seems like yesterday we were telling lies and shooting the breeze together. I especially miss the practical jokes we played on one another. I have to admit now that it was me that put the dead fish under your back seat of your patrol car. It was funny to see you ride around all those days without figuring out where the smell was coming from. I owed you for the pepper gas in the A/C vents! What I would give for one more of those days with you.

On this sixth year after your death, me and several others who still hold your dear to our hearts got together and celebrated your memory. It was a sad, but good time. We all miss you dearly. Just know that you are here in our hearts and memories and will always remain there.

I love you brother! Keep that watchful eye over me. Take care.

To the family and loved ones of Sergeant Carlton Daniel Jenkins and his fellow officers with the Camden Sheriff's Department:

On this the sixth anniversary of Dan's tragic death, I wanted to honor and remember him today. Dan's professionalism and dedication will never be forgotten, nor will his valor and courage.

In reading the loving reflections left by his family, partners, friends and co-workers I can see that he was very well respected and is sorely missed. What an amazing man he was to have impacted so many lives in such a significant way and in such a manner that those whose lives he was a part of have not forgotten him and never will. I hope that God is holding Dan in the sweetest part of his heart and the most gentle part of his soul.

I am so sorry that Dan was robbed of his life so tragically, but through his heroism and the profound sense of duty with which he lived his life, he made an immeasurable difference. May his spirit continue to soar and may his memory continue to inspire.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the eleven years of dedicated service Dan gave to his community and the citizens of Georgia, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on August 28, 2000.

Dan,

I did not know you when you were alive. But I have watched the joy and pride of other officers when they talk about you, tell funny war stories and the like. I see the decals on citizens cars and fellow officers cars that reflect "1111". I have also seen the pain and anguish in the faces of my co-workers as they tell of the day, the moment they heard, a couple of them were first on the scene, that you had been murdered. I just wanted to say that your death was not in vain. Everytime I go on duty I think of your and your sacrifice, and it makes me safer, a little more careful on traffic stops. But most of all, it makes me Thank Almighty God for the blessed life he has given me and reminds me not to EVER take for granted this precious gift He has given us, life. Thanks for being the man you were and your legacy that graces and reflects all of us wearing the badge.

I just seen a show on worlds wildest police videos. You were a very brave police officer. At the end of the show it told us that you were killed in the line of duty. We are very sad...this happened to a very young officer. We hope your family is doing good. We know their pain. We too lost our brother in the line of duty. God bless and watch over your five children and wife. Thank you for doing such a great job.

Another year and your memory is still strong in me. I often think of you and the times we shared together. I still tell stories of you and share fun times we had with others. I'm blessed to have been your friend, proud to have served with you and honored to have been trained by you. Rest easy brother, for one day we will rejoice as we patrol the streets of heaven together as we did on once before. Keep a watchful eye on me from time to time. Take care Dan. I miss you.

I was at your funeral and was proud to have been aquainted with you when you were alive. There was not a person there that did not feel your loss. Five months ago, my Sgt was shot to death on a traffic stop. I was with him immediately after and though there was nothing to be done, I tried. I know now first hand what your Brothers and Sisters faced that night you were taken, and how they felt. I pray for those Officer's and your family and hope they are doing well. I hope the pain goes away someday and only remembrance of the laughter shared remains. My Sgt was a professional, and was everything I remember Kevin, Mike and Patricia saying about you. He had a great personality, was loyal and true to the badge, professional and polished, and was a prankster with the best. I hope the two of you patrol Heavens streets together. I wish the best for your family and friends who still miss you. I hope they smile now, instead of cry for your memory. God Bless Brother, you are not forgotten 1111.

Dan,
You were my best friend for so many years. I still can't believe you are gone. I will never forget the night I got the phone call that you were gone. I still look at the pictures of you from Kingsland, Camden Co and of course Amelia Island Plantation. You were such a good person and officer. You loved your family so much and I hope now that the court time is over they can really begin to heal. God bless them and keep them safe. I know you are watching down on us and know how many people really loved you. God rest your soul our Superman.
Your friend always,

I just saw you for the first time on "World's Wildest Police Chases" and was disturbed when they said you were murdered only a few months after that.

Thank you Sergeant Jenkins for keeping us safe from bad. God bless you.

I just saw the episode of "World's Wildest Police Chases" and I was very sad to see the end when they said you had been killed a few months later. My nephew was killed in a traffic stop in Texas. Since then, I have a new admiration for all law enforcement officers. Thank you, Sir, for serving and protecting. Rest in peace.

I cant believe it has been 4 years. The memories are still so fresh in my head!! You are missed just as much today as you were on August 28, 2000. Dan, you really do not know how much you influenced my life. I graduate college in May to pursue a career in federal law enforcement. You are my inspiration, my personal hero. I thank you So much for all the things that you taught me about life in general. I can honestly say that I will never meet another person like you Dan!! Everyone that knew you can say that. Never a dull moment. I am so proud to have had the opportunity for you to mentor me. The thin blue line definitely waved the day you were taken from us but now it is even stronger. You live in all of us Dan and know that I will never let you down!! Rest in peace Dan.

Yet another year has come and gone since you were taken from us; however, your memory does not escape me. We still hold you high in our spirits and not a day goes by at work that we do not think of you in some way or another. You were an exemplary deputy sheriff and role model to us all. Keep a watchful eye over us in the times to come as we continue the watch here. I long for the time we will be reunited and laugh again as we used to. Take care brother, we miss you!

I was deeply upset when I heard of your passing. You and I met when you were still with Kingsland Police Dept. I was a young sailor going too fast one day when you stopped me. You gave me a stiff talking too about how what I doing was putting other people in danger not just myself. We met again on several occasions around town (not on duty) during my tour in Kings Bay. I can say to you that you made a difference, that was the last ticket I ever received. Once while I was working part time at Shoney's in Kingsland, You and your family stopped in. Your tab was taken care of that day without you knowing who. You made a diference in my life more that you know. Since learning of your passing I have made it a point every time I am out and see an officer on his break usually alone, that I pick up their tab. I know it is not much. But all of you effect people in many way's without ever knowing it, and what you do is greatly appreciated. I once heard you referred to as the best officer to have as backup on any call. May GOD BLESS your family, and your fellow officer's knowing you are always there as their backup. Thank you
