our heroism and service is honored today, the tenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and miss you for I know both their pain and pride are forever. I regret that you or your family received justice for your senseless death and hope that the man responsible for your death is haunted by memories of the incident. He was obviously a coward who could not face the consequences of his actions.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Officer Dunman and I served together in the Guayaquil Ecuador Mission. We were assigned as partners for 3 months working the shanty town of Mapasingue in one of the poorest parts of Ecuador. He was the "veteran" of a year when I arrived in the country. He took me under his wing when I got sick with Dengue Fever and Malaria. We lost track of each other when we returned home as sometimes happens in life. I didn't know he was a police officer until I heard of his passing. I was a Deputy Sheriff at the time with just 2 years under my belt. Again I felt he had paved the way for me and I was again the "rookie" and he was the "veteran". Several years later I was transfered to the Metro Gang Unit where I got to work side by side several Salt Lake City Police Officers and patrol the same streets as Michael did. I wasn't surprized to find out he chose law enforcement as a career. He was a natural at making people feel good about themselves and wanted. I wish I would have had the chance to work with him on the streets of Salt Lake City as we did in Mapasingue Ecuador. Michael was/is a good man. One who needs to be remembered by everyone in law enforcement especially those working in the state of Utah. Thank you Dunman, thanks for taking care of me on the other side of the world. I got your back here and will continue where you left off.

Michael and I went to the same high school in florida. Michael was always a person that was kind and helpful to other people. As a former teammate and brother in Law enforcement I am proud that people like michael answered the call.

Mike, It is coming up on four years since you passed. I still think about you often. When we got hired together and were going through training, we were so optimistic and hopeful. Losing you has made me concentrate on what is important in this life, family and friends and living each moment to the fullest. I miss you my brother and when we meet again on the other side I look forward to sitting down with you and having another one of those great talks that we used to have. Rest in peace, knowing that we are still taking care of business on this end.

Michael was a wonderful person.  Anyone who plays golf, goes on a mission to Ecuador, and loves his family like Michael did just has to be terrific.  He is greatly missed.  It is very hard to get over such a sudden, tragic death.  We miss you, Michael!

We may never understand it,
the risks these brave ones take,
but occasionally we see a bit
of the difference their lives make.

Some do it for the action,
others find it a callin'.
All find the satisfaction,
and few become the fallen.

Being an officer is what he loved,
To him as good as it gets.
Law was what he dreamed of,
He would have no regrets.

And though it saddens all of us
to lose him in this way
He knew how an officer must
Live life to the fullest everyday.
