Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Lance Corporal David Travis Bailey

I first met David when he came right out of patrol school. Then, I worked at Abbeville Magistrate Court. He was in Abbeville County SC with us for several years before moving on to Greenville County. David was truly a great guy. When he came in to sign off tickets and do other things he would always have a story to tell about what had happened, the best stories and he could not sit still while he was telling them. Over the years of knowing David, I heard stories about his then girlfriend which he later married. At the time she lived in the Columbia area and was going to school. I also heard all about his dad who was a retired trooper and lived in the Greenville area. He often talked about his little sister and mom as well who were in the Columbia area at that time. When you work that closely with someone and see them on a regular basis you find out alot of things and I felt like I knew his family well even though I never had the opportunity to meet most of them. When David had the wreck, I got a call from another friend of his, Robbie, while I was working night shift at 911. Later he called me back to say David had passed away. This was something that was just hard to believe as I am sure most people that knew him thought as well. David was always a very strong, athletic person when I knew him, the kind of person who could conquer the world. After I went to his funeral, reality hit me like a brick. He always talked about his dream was working in a big area and working the interstate so he could stop the dangerous speeding that goes on there. He truly wanted to make the world a safer place for all of us. I will never forget you David. You are often on my mind, now that I work at 911 I have your picture in my locker and I keep it as a reminder of how dangerous it is out there and that anything could happen in a split second. Thank you David for all the great times, hugs, and stories that you shared with all of us. You are truly missed. To your family, know that David will never be forgotten.

David,
The day you were taken from us, my son was born. A day filled with happiness turned to incredible pain. Thank you for being you.

Every year on my sons birthday, he asks me why I am sad for moments. I tell him about you and he understands. He tells me to pray to God and take some time to talk to the HEROs above. I hope he has your spirit. Thanks...

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

Officer Bailey you are remembered on this date of your death. You will always be remembered.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

David,
I never had the honor of meeting you and for that I am sorry. I have however in the last few months met your cousin. You would be so proud, what a fine young man he is and a great friend. As you know, I'm sure, he is in law enforcement, so watch over him and the rest of us and keep us safe.

Travis will be dearly missed and I appreciate his kindness and his love for the Patrol. He worked an acceident I had on Woodruff Rd. and we talked a while about the way the worl acts sometimes. He has left us behind to be with God but we will join him one day.

I wanted to take the time to say "Thank You" to Trooper Bailey for giving his life for me and the other citizens of South Carolina. He paid the ultimate price for his courage and strength. He will be missed greatly in the law enforcement community. I also wanted to thank the North Carolina Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Highway Patrol for attending the funeral and showing support.

CHIEF RONNIE WATFORD-RETIRED
JEFFERSON POLICE DEPT,S.C.

And I wished for so long cannot stay
All the precious moments cannot stay
It's not like wings have fallen cannot stay
But still something's missing I cannot say yea
Holding hands are daughters and sons
And their faiths are falling down down down down
I have wished for so long
How I wish for you today

Will I walk the long road the long road
Cannot stay the long road
There's no need to say goodbye say goodbye
All the friends and family
All the memories going round round round
I have wished for so long
How I wish for you today

And the wind keeps roarin'
And the sky keeps turning grey
And the sun is setting
The sun won't rise another day

I have wished for so long
How I wish for you today

Miss You David -
