Damn George its been ten years. I can still remember our last conversation like it was yesterday. Your kids have grown your daughter is the basketball star you were. You go 10-8 with me every day that I do. Your medal badge number has been pinned to every department vehicle I have ever driven. It always creates good memories when people ask me about it and I can share a story. Your parents are well and you are so very missed. Derek carries on his love for his brother, you would be so proud of him, I know I am. I miss you my friend.

As a long time friend from Port Charlotte, Fl., we have joined the US Army together and lost contact in the shuffle of our many military assignments. Following the end of our duty commitment, I have tried in many ways to reestablish our friendship but at that time your commitment to the citizens of Orange County was rightfully your priority. Eight years later, I am still mourning your lost. You represent a true hero. One that sacrifices his life for the safety and freedom of others. I will always remember you as my thoughts and prayers will always be dedicated to you and your loved ones.

Today I thought about you brother. I was looking up at my “Angels” pin and felt safe again after seeing your face. I have a young squad now but they are squared away and know about you and remember your sacrifice. We gathered with your family when the city dedicated your remembrance plaque and were able to play in you tournament. Derek is such a great guy and works hard to this day to keep you memory alive. We will not forget. It’s touching to see how much your family loves you George. Your sons are growing up and its clear that “the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.” Please keep a watchful eye on us and I pray for the day we meet again…

I met George's mother through the father of a young female officer from the OPD, who was KIA on her first tour of duty home from DC where several officers went to honor George. I told her father to give me George's mom's email address and I wrote her.

My promise to George's mother was to look after him here in DC, since I'm only 5 minutes from the NLEOMF. I remember George on the date of his EOW, Birthday, at Easter, and Christmas - and always, during Police Week.

Sleep Sweetly, Stefan - your family loves you and still misses you very much.

Eight years have gone by and it still feels like yesterday that we lost you. My wife and son have never met you but they know all about you. She still sheds tears when we look at your pictures and Stefan still asks who you are. I always tell him "he's my hero and everyone else's."Your children are amazing and I do everything I can for them as you did for me. I still feel so much pain without you here but only have hope that your right here with me. Mom and dad have been unbelievable getting through this and I envy their strength.Thank you again for saving me with your sacrifice, I will never let you down! I love you big brother and we ALL miss you everyday.

Thank you to everyone who has left a message! Its good to see people don't forget. It is also important to see how many lives George touched besides ours.

Please feel free to contact me to share memories of George or become part of our family. 407-810-2807

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I had the pleasure of being good friends with George in 1993 at US Army, Military Police, basic training, Ft. McClellan, AL. We'd have such good times, playing basketball, singing, best hair contest, just cutting the fool and having fun. He would have everyone cracking up, just being George. He was so much fun and such a good person to be associated with. I remember how much he loved his family, he'd always show off pictures of his wife and kids. We had lost touch over the years and then I saw what had happened on the news. Like everyone who knew him, I was devistated. I hope all is well with his family. I thank God for letting me share a few short months with him. I still think of you George to this day. May you rest in peace, your friend forever, Dale Templeton

7 years since you were taken. You and my classmate, Officer King worked the same shift. She too is with you now. I pray that your family is doing well. Two good people taken from us too soon. I just don't understand.

It has been awhile but I will never forget when I recieved the call of this horiffic incident. I have known George as a funny outgoing person. To this day when I see his Daughter Nessa I see George through her. To all the dirt bags that are walking the streets that choose to be on the other side of the law, our LAW ENFORCEMENT BROTHERHOOD is strong and when one bleeds we all bleed. You will never win and just keep looking over your shoulder because we will be there. All my love and prayers go out to the family and George will NEVER be forgotten.

Sally! It was by chance that I heard about what happened. You and I were pretty tight in Korea. My Brother In Green.
I am going to miss you now more than I did when we parted in 1996. We had a great 12 months together overseas and I will NEVER forget how you always had my back! My prayers are with your family and I hope you rest in peace. You will never be forgotten.

To Officer George Stefan DeSalvia and his loved ones:

On this the seventh anniversary week after your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

George, you rescued us, saved our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring. I also salute your service to our country through your military service in the U.S. Army.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

It has been 7 years since your EOW and you have not been forgotten. You are a true hero and heroes never die. I know law enforcement had to be a dream you always wanted to accomplish and you finally did even if it was for only a short time. You performed that job with dedication and professnionalism. You will never be forgotten.
