I remember hearing the news flash that a MSP Trooper had been hit and killed by a hit and run driver.

I was saddened that the driver failed to stop or render assistance. Man's inhumanity to man.

I'm proud of the MSP. I've looked up to them since I was a small boy growing up in Detroit. My friends and I would always say the MSP Troopers look so "sharp."

They still do! Rest in Peace, Trooper Hardy.

Obviously we lost a fine Trooper. Rest in peace.

I was working the same shift as Fred on the night of his death and when I heard his partner outside on prep calling for priority I knew something bad had happened. That is a day that I will never forget. Fred was more than a co-worker to all of his fellow Troops at the Detroit Post. He was a mentor, friend and guardian. He had a quiet humbleness that is not seen to often in our profession. Fred was a family man who was very devoted to God and his family. I had the pleasure of working with this great man on quite a few occassions and it was such a learning experience every time. He was very fair with everyone he encountered on the job, but he knew when it was time to take care of business. I remember my first week at the Detroit Post, I was trained by Fred. As I sat in that patrol car in the middle of summer and saw Fred dealing with four different accidents at the same time, I thought there is no way Im ever going to be able to work down here. But I learned just like we all do. "Freddy Bear" there is not one day that goes by that I dont think about you and I know I will see you again someday. Until then be my guardian and watch over my family, mainly, and through a little something my way from time to time.
Your friend always, Tpr. William Priest, badge #1405

Trooper Hardy,

I wrote a poem for you. It is called Tears for a Lost Trooper. Having friends in the MSP and seeing their pain, made me write it.
