Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Corporal Steven L. Levy

Last year I was reading Officer Levy's Web site and after doing so I left him a message in his guest book. Shortly thereafter I received an email telling me of the tragic death of Steve. I was very taken back by this shocking news and that night I wrote a tribute page for him, and then a second page. After awhile, Steve's mother-in-law contacted me and we began to communitcate and have since become friends. I attended the memorial in DC this past May to honor Steve and a nearly aquired friend of mine who was brutally murdered in Holy Yolk Mass, also a Police Officer. From what I know about Steven Levy, he was one of the best. To this day it breaks my heart everytime I go back to his web site which is often and each time I think of Steven and his family and his two young children. One officer who dies in the line of duty is one two many. Tthe 2nd tributes down under Officer Daniel Faulkner are about Steve. And down the index a little further is another page entitle A Policemen's thoughts and feelings. Everything on the site are written by me, unless other wise note. May prayer will always be with Steven and his family. A blue light burns in my home 24 hours a day. We must not every forget them, nor must we ever forgot why they died. Thinking back to when I first received this tragic news.. I think about Steve's courage and his dedication to his community. This man touched my heart and I never even had the pleasure of meeting him, but I meet his in laws who presented me with a Survivors pin and told me that I was the survivor for all Police officers. All I ever wish to do, is to bring about a measure of comfort to those left behind, and make sure that no officer is ever forgotten. God Bless you Steve. I know you are constantly missed, but I also know that you are with God and that you can never again be hurt in anyway. I also know that you are watching and overseeing the things you loved so!
dearly. Your friend   -Janet-

It saddens me again to hear of the loss of another police officer. Thank you sir, for your dedication to your country and it's citizens. May God grant your family peace during this time. May one day our country find peace within itself. Yet another angel...wears a badge.

Steve was a cop's cop. He lived and breathed police work and was one of the safest, smartest Officers I have ever known. I was in such disbelief when this happened. Only a couple days before he was running into dispatch, laughing and stealing all of the cookies I had baked for the guys. I swear he could shove half a dozen in his mouth at one time!
The news hit me hard. Steve had always reminded me of my dad. My dad was the same type of cop as Steve, until he was shot in the face by a robbery suspect. My dad lived, but his career was over and it ultimately destroyed him. This all hit so close to home for me.
At the funeral, we all cried. We all united. As a department, as individuals. It was awesome to see the amount of Officers who came to pay their respects, but tragic and horrible the reason why we were all there.
Steve can never be forgotten. He is in our hearts and never far from our thoughts. I can still picture him with handfuls of chocolate chip cookies, I smile and my heart aches at the same time.

I grew up in the Washington Township area and am now with the Wilmington Delaware Police Department. It is always a tragedy when a brother or sister in blue passes on, but this one hit close too close to home...rest in peace brother...

Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.. MATTHEW 5:9

I am sitting here remembering the day Cpl. Levy was tragically taken from his family, friends, and the department that was so very proud of him. I wear the memorial shirt often and pray that his wife and children have found some peace after some time has passed by. I left NJ in June, 2000 but certain events will linger in my thoughts.

My prayers continue....
