Thank you for your years of service and dedication. May you rest in peace, Sir! You will never be forgotten.

Back in 1976 I was hired on along with 3 other people one being David aka Rocky. We worked together for about 3 years than Rockey went to the Highway Patrol which surprised me because David really didn't like working traffic. I was with MWCPD for about 11 1/2 years and left the service and moved out of state. Today 3/3/07 is the first time that I heard that David isn't with us. I'm shocked and saddened by this news and would like to express my heart felt sympathy and condolence's to his family, God Bless You. I never forgot David nor will I ever.

Rocky, You and your family are on my mind again today as it so oftem is, especially at this time of the year. The weather is cool, like it was then. I was there the night God called you home to be with him. It has made a lasting impact on my life. Kellie is such a wonderful model for your children. She honors you in every way. Sleep peacefully brother. I will never forget that fateful night and I am not alone in my thoughts.

Rocky and I were in the same platoon as Marine Corps basic officer students in Company E, Class 5-73 of The Basic School in Quantico. We became friends early when we discovered that we wore the same watch, a Rolex Submariner, and also shared the same desire for adventure and excitement. I remember once that instead of studying for a major exam, we went rappeling. Despite not studying, he still did very well on the exam, and I did very poorly. He was an outstanding athlete and we would frequently compete in the fitness tests. His military skills were also supurb, and I am confident that he was also an outstanding Oklahoma Trooper.
I did not learn of Rocky's tragic fate unitl last fall from our fellow classmate, Bill DeWeese. My deepest sympathy to Rocky's family.
It is indeed tragic that our nation loses our best warriors who are also friends, fathers and sons in senseless violence.
I think of Rocky often and wish his family and his children the very best. He was a good guy, and I will always remember him.
Very Respectfully,
Kenneth F. Herrington III

Kelli, Ali and Mackie,
You have all been in my thoughts. No one could ever fix the wrong but I hope that you all have some peace in the decisions that were made. You have all been a such a inspiration to the other surviving families. Know that you are loved.

Rocky was my friend since about 1977 I would say, when he was stationed in Tulsa at Troop B. We shared many laughs together back then and I fondly remember a few stunts we pulled together. Rock & I were also brother Marines which established a lifelong bond between us, just like our mutual involvment in law enforcement. Rock, your physical gifts to me a cherished keepsakes. But your personal gift of friendship is by far the greatest gift of all. God blees my friend, my brother.

I read in "24/7" A voice of Law Enforcement a letter by Trooper Eales daughter Allison. Obviously Trooper Eales was a outstanding police officer, but the greatest father. Allison, my son just joined our police service and I am so proud of him, like you of your father. God bless you and your family. Sgt Rocky Maze

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, September 24, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Trooper David W. Eales who died in the line of duty on this date five years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Trooper Eales' sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Mrs. Eales,

I met you briefly in Cozumel in August, 2004. We spoke of your husbands death and how it seems the suspects have all the rights and the victim's have none. I just wanted you to know I admire your strength and courage in getting through this tragedy. God bless you and your two children!!

I felt this same way when Dad's killer set free, where's the justice. I can't imagine what goes through a persons mind when they hand out poor justice like this. Rest in peace my friend we will still carry on even though it seems the ones we serve don't care. You were and always will be a true hero and never forgotten. Watch over us my friend.

The trial is over AGAIN. I cannot fathom what the jury was thinking in their sentence of your murderer. How can you have lost your life & two others injured & your assailant be found "Not Guilty of Discharging a firearm" ? Your "gunman" will only serve a few years (for MURDER). I hope the "Jurors of our peers" can sleep at night knowing they have placed all law enforcement officers lives at risk. I hope they never need an officer in an emergency situation. I would blame no person if they never chose to be in law enforcement. You gave your life the the ordinary citizen of this great state, for no reason, IT NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.

Your wife is left to raise your two beautiful children alone & to keep your memory alive & she will remind them daily that you loved them enough to die to protect them and others like them. God bless her & your children.

You will never be forgotten.

Rocky I was thinking about you today and remembering how full of life you were. It seemed every day was an adventure and you meet it head on. We are praying the D.A will hurry up and schedule a new trial this year so justice can be rendered. Rest in peace my brother, you are not forgotten.

God bless, Troop. I only hope that the very system you died for doesn't let you down. You will never be forgotten as a hero doesn't die. May your family know that their extended family does care and that you made a difference.

I never met Trooper Eales but I've trained with some of the OHP Tac team guys. They are a great bunch. Trooper Eales died doing his duty and he is a hero. God bless you and your family Rocky.

Sgt. Phil Paz
Oklahoma City Police Department

I only met Rocky a few times when he was on the pike, although as a young Trooper I was inspired by his physical condition and the way he kept his uniform squared away. It was inspiring to see a Trooper with 20 years on the patrol still shining bright, enjoying his job and looking forward to his position and missions on the tactical team. He is greatly missed, and my heart still hurts everytime I see his son in that little brown shirt carrying Rocky's round brown. It's such a waste that a good man has to die in this war on drugs.
