This would be the one moment in time that if I could change I would. Had I just stood firm and said we were not gonna serve that one warrant I would still have a good friend with us today. Bobby would still have his father today. Law Enforcement would have had twenty more years of outstanding policing from an outstanding Police Officer.
There’s not too many days that pass that I don’t think about this life altering moment in time. Miss ya Bert.

I don't remember the day you were shot but I think it was around this time. Jordon is now 24 and his mannerisms are just like yours and he looks so very much like you. He and Bobby have connected several years ago and remain in touch. You'd be proud of both of your boys.

It's 2016. I dreamed about you the other night and saw you as you were as a teenager and young man - one of those dreams when you wake you're not sure where you are or if it was real. It has been, what, since the 80's since we spoke so I thought I would google you and get in touch to see where life had taken you... Imagine my sadness that your life had ended so long ago and so tragically. You are not forgotten my friend - you live on in the memories of us all. Your son looks just like you did in uniform all those years ago. Peace be with you and those you left behind.

Dear Robert,
Today we are traveling home from the Police Memorial in Florida. We have met so many wonderful families, through the years, that have shared in the loss of an officer. Bobby has grown, and matured, into a tall, handsome, 14 yoa, man. He carries your name, and your memory like a torch, everywhere he goes. He attends every memorial service available, to honor you. But, you know that, he says you're always with him. Many thanks to our brothers and sisters in law enforcement that you appointed to guard him. They are always by his side. LYMI, Lunda and Bobby

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 11th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for the aolace of all those who love and miss you.

Rest In Peace.

Robert was a friend of mine. I grew up with him, played football with him, and truly enjoyed his friendship. Robert was a loyal friend, a strong competitor, and great team mate. We lost touch after high school. I heard a rumor about his death and was not able to find anything about Robert until today. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Thank you Robert for serving your fellow man. You are truly missed. Your life, humor, and dedication will be with all who knew you.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

One year ago this date
Officer Robert Young Clement
lost his life in
the never ending pursuit of
justice. Officer Clement's heroic
actions on October 19, 1997 is
another tragic example of the
violence law enforcement officers
face each and every day. All
of our shifts today are
dedicated to the memory of
this hero. We extend our deepest
thoughts and prayers to his
family, friends and fellow
officers hoping that in the
knowledge that he will never be
forgotten by us will bring some
peace to all concerned.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.
