My thoughts are of you and all of your loved ones today. Justice was not served in my opinion concerning the punishment of the individual who caused so much pain to those that love you. They have to live with their loss forever. Continue to watch over them. You are a true hero and heroes never die. You have not been forgotten.

Dearest Ken,
I don't know why but as soon as I came onto my computer I felt the need to look you up... It has been so long since we worked together at the SO and I still remember the day I was getting ready to go out for my shift and heard of the incident which resulted in your tragic passing. You are a true inspiration to so many, still. I am no longer in LE but still have the feelings evoked by being part of an amazing network of kindred spirits. Keep watching over me and all the others who are still here. I look forward to seeing yur smiling face again and swinging around in your great bear hugs...I love you and miss you my brother, my friend.

To the family and friends of Deputy Kenneth Wimberly and his fellow officers in the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department:

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to pay honor to Kenneth's memory on the tenth anniversary of the day Kenneth so tragically lost his life. His heroism, valor and bravery will be forever remembered.

May you be continue to be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement family and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you. Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot in April of 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, so we know the anquish you are still experiencing.

I regret that the family and department did not receive the full measure of justice they deserved in the criminal proceedings.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the years of service Deputy Wimberly gave to his community and the citizens of Georgia, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 22, 1998.

I know that you miss your beloved husband and father. Please contact me or Leigh Carter (?) for more information regarding this reflection. I don't know how to explain this, but I have a message for Mr. Wimberly's family. Thank you and God bless.

I'll never forget the day we lost you. I was working fire dispatch in the 911 center when the call came in. I remember the chaos and all the people running in and out of the room yelling for updates. I remember sitting and waiting, which seemed like forever, for the paramedics to give their updates. When they said you had passed, I almost couldn't believe it. I had been a dispatcher for only two years and the most dreaded thing that could happen did. Although we had never met, I felt as though I had lost a brother. Your loss will not be in vain. You and your family are still in my heart and in my prayers. You are a true hero. As an employee and a citizen of Gwinnett County, I thank you.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
