Reflections for Patrolman Keith Ashley Turner

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 14th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

Wanted Mr.Turner's family and brothers and sisters in blue to know that he is not forgotten. I am also a citizen of Moody. I was safely and soundly asleep in my bed the night he died protected me and my family. He, nor his sacrifice will EVER be forgotten.

I lost another dear friend a little over a year ago he too was killed in the line of duty. I am hoping that you too have hooked up in heaven because you two together would really be something.

I still think of you often and will never forget the day you left this earth.

I can't beleive it has been almost 10 years. I can still remember that day so clearly. Just wanted you to know how much you are missed. It's funny how often things remind me of you, I heard the "electric slide" on the radio the other day and it just took me back to all those crazy parties we had. Having 4 sisters, you were the closest thing to a brother I ever had and theres not many days that go by that I don't think of you.

It is hard to beleive that this will be the 10 year anniversary of your death, I just wonder what you would be doing right now. I did not know you long, but the time I did know you I am thankful for. I dated your brother and you were always so nice to me. Of course you picked and aggrevaited, but I would have not had it any other way. I remember the morning I drove to Ragland after I heard you had been shot, they were lowering the flag as I drove into town and I remember just crying - tears still well up in my eyes to think about it. The world lost a wonderful man the day you got killed. Rest in Piece Keith Turner, Rest in Piece.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I remember that night all to well. But most of all I remember Keiths good nature and how much he meant to so many. I remember how our little city was overwhelmed by so many new faces and how scared everyone was. God bless Keith and his family and also those that came from so far away to help our city heal from such a tragic event. Keith you were loved and will always be loved.

God Bless your family, your partners, and most of all the wife and daughter you left behind.

I remember that we all had flyers of the two escaped convicts, being on the look out for them. As my partner and myself pulled into a local bar parking lot on patrol, dispatch broadcasted that the two cons shot a Moody police officer, then I remembered how sad and empty I felt when she said at last that the officer was 10-42. Shortly thereafter our whole shift was called to the station by our Lieutenant. he explained that a manhunt was being organized and that he was going to send two officers to moody to look for the suspects. Thats all that he could send. He asked for volunteers. I quicky raised my hand as did the rest of the officers there. Myself and another officer was chosen to go. We raced to Moody where we were posted in several places before we were assigned to guard the I-20 interstate perimeter. There we stayed until late the following afternoon. I remember how badly we wanted to bring those two murderers in. I thank God they were captured, and im very proud to have been a part of the largest manhunt in the history of Alabama to capture Officer Turner's Killers.
You are a Hero! Justice will be served.
