Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper Linda Carol Huff

Tpr.Huff it's been 15 long years now, and yet I remember your tragedy as if it were yesterday. My fiance and I were in C d' A last year and we took the time to reflect on your story. RIP, you were among the best.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 14th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I could not help feeling incredibly angry when I read of the sentencing your killer received. I think it was a travesty of justice.

I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Phyllis Loya
Mom of fallen California Officer Larry Lasater, Pittsburg PD, eow 4/24/05

Linda,
So much time has passed, nearly 14 years. As tomorrow is Peace Officer Memorial Day, I thought I'd post and let you know you're not forgotten! I'm thankful for the days I worked with you at PCSO. Your family is doing well, but you already know that I guess. Rest easy, continue to guard and watch over those in the thin blue line.

Former Dispatcher, PCSO

I remember being a brand new municipal police recruit attending the Idaho POST Academy. Linda's picture and tribute hung on the wall of the main hallway. I remember passing that picture many times and wondering if my day would ever come. By God's grace it has not, but Linda's face is etched forever in my mind. For me, she was the first "face" of an officer down. I pray I never have to exchange gunfire, but if called to do so, I hope I do so as courageously as she did. You are forever remembered Linda!

I remember during ATC the streamer that has your name on it that was affixed to our guide on. I will never forget you. The region 1 office is named after you and you are still on everybody's mind. I remember during FTO during 3rd phase my FTO reminded me about what had happened to you. Our office got set up with cameras now that show us the parking lot before we go out. And I always look because thats what happened to you. I miss you deeply and will always remember you.

Well Linda.....I can't believe 13 years have passed already. I just wanted to say I still think about you frequently and I will never forget you. During these past 13 years, I have held on tightly to so many feelings from that night. I continually held myself responsible for not getting there to help you sooner so that I could have hopefully prevented this tragedy. I was in the southern most part of the city when your call for help came over the radio. I drove that damn patrol car beyond its abilities and probably way beyond my own but I still didn't make it in time to help you. I have carried that guilty feeling all these years but I now realize the situation was out of my hands. I understand that is a long time to hold on to feelings like that but what happened to you was so wrong in so many ways. You will be forever in my thoughts and I will never forget how hard you fought. You are a true warrior and a hero!

I was shocked and saddened to learn that the thug who murdered trooper Huff had been spared a well deserved death sentence because there was no "aggravating factor" or words to that effect. How tragic it is that a brave officer can be sullied by the cowardice of one fool in a black robe!

Dearest Linda

You are such a hero to me. Almost twelve years have passed since you were taken from us. The world suffered a great loss that day. You were such a beautiful, strong, couragious women. Your children are so big now and beautiful, you were such a great Mom and wife. I am proud to have your husband Chad as our Sherriff now. I am proud to say that you were my friend and you are missed everyday. I Love You.

A Policewomen's Prayer

Oh lord, I am a woman, not a man,
I am a Mother not a Dad,
I am a wife with responsibilities that men have never had,
I need understanding from all my peers,
that I am not here to take away a man's job,
I am doing it because I care.

I took the job to enforce the law,
to do my part in the fight to have justice FOR ALL.
To be professional, to make a career, Great Lord,
help me when they say I should not be here.

I work the long hours, face all the dangers and do the same
things that they do in law enforcement matters,
Grant me the respect like the others, for I am one.

Set aside for every other one, Lord,
being a policewoman is the most challenging job I have ever done,
be with me on my daily run, as you are with us all,
I thank you for the ability to enforce the law.

Amen

I am still very angry, and while sharing the details of that Horrific Night upon my various sites, I still found it difficult not to "vent" regarding the outcome at the Criminal Trial.

I am still trying to use Your great example of a "Will To Survive", to help me overcome my personal anger.

May You Rest - In - Peace, knowing You are NOT forgotten...

On the 11th anniversary of Trooper Huff's death, we honored her service in our patrol briefing by reading her entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Trooper Huff is not forgotten.

Linda,

I think of you often. You sent me a letter in May 1998 for my High School graduation, I still have that letter and read it often. You were an amazing woman, mother, and officer. Life is not the same without you. You are on my mind today as I found out from my mom Yvette Hollis that Idaho State Police is currently building a new office in Region 1, they are naming the office The Linda Huff building. A much deserved honor. We miss you Linda! We love you!
