Anthony,

Your death tore our family apart. I will never forget that day as long as I live. Pulling up to the hospital to hear it on the radio. We were so close as kids and I think of you all the time.

Read "Memorial for a hero" in the New York Post today and just remembered Tony from when i was a rookie in the 67 in 10/91 doing FTU and how all us rookies looked up to guys like him.

Rest in Peace and may God be with your family throughout these long years.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

It was a cold day in January 1993, I was a rookie and I had my very first collar, I was 20 years old and extremely green; From across the pct a guy I never met before screams out "kid" I gotcha what do you need. It was Tony "MOS" and from that day there on he taught me how to be a cop and first and foremost how to be a man, and boy did he exhibit alot of patience with me. There is not a more dynamite guy on this job, Tony has always been the bar for me, I seldom reach it but I always strive to get there. Tony I miss you buddy you left me down here all alone.

I DID MY FIELD TRAINING IN THE 067(10/1997). I REMEMBER MEETING ANTHONY MOSOMILLO FILLING UP THE SODA AND CANDY MACHINES IN THE MUSTER ROOM. HE CALLED US ROOKES OVER TO HIM, HANDED US HIS PBA BUSINESS CARD AND OFFERED US SODAS. I STILL HAVE HIS CARD ON THE 1ST PAGE OF MY BUSINESS CARD BOOK.
A PARTNER, A HERO, & A FRIEND. GOD BLESS.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Mosomillo and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer Mosomillo has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends of Officer Mosomillo, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Mosomillo is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Brother Mosomillo,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

My condolence to Police Officer Anthony F. Mosomillo. At the time of this horrible tradgedy I was in the 97/98 Police Academy class. I was in the 66 Pct. doing my first day of field training. This brought me to the full reality of Police Work. I will never forget that day. May god bless you forever. "THE WORLD LOST A HERO ON THAT DAY, BUT HEAVEN GAINED AN ANGEL" I am now a Police Officer for the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, but one of NYPD's finest by heart.

Anthony,
When I met you in 1984 in the police academy we became fast friends and carpool partners. Although we did not always keep in touch over the years we would still have chance meetings and catch up on good times. When your brother Sal came to work in the 84 pct it was like meeting you all over again. Although the two of you were different people you both have that Mosomillo quality "loyalty" a word people throw around but do not usually understand. Rest in peace my friend. You will always be a HERO.
