Reflections for Senior Trooper James Patrick Bartram

Uncle Pat,
I cant believe it been so long since you have past away. I miss you dearly and think about you every day. We had another poker run in your memory and we raised alot of money and it made me so happy to be apart of this in your memory. today was a sad day because a officer was killed that has become a very close friend to the family and helped out alot in the rides. But i just wanted to tell you that you are thought about and loved everyday....love you!!

Pat,
It doesn't seem possible that it has been 8 yrs. since you went away. You were one of the the best and most caring individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I still miss you and think of you every day. I'm so glad knowing that you and Robert are together, I don't know of any two people who were more alike in their thinking and their genuine caring about other people.

Our Greatest Fear
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again, I hold back a tear.
They patrol in the state, city, county and town,
in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.
The shape of their badges may vary,
but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.
They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,
but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.
To uphold the law is the job that they pick,
with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?
They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,
after their lives have met tragic ends.
Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,
too many have been lost when gunshots ring out.
Our Heavenly Father has called them home,
no more these dark streets do they roam.
Through trial and error they have given their best,
please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
" Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again I hold back a tear.

Hey Pat, with the upcoming World Isshinryu Karate Championships I think of you my friend. I think of times we shared, battles we fought, training we did together, laughs until we cried, shared stories, and very little glory. A police officers life. In thinking about you my friend and in dedication to all fallen warriors; I list this poem.

DO NOT STAND BY MY GRAVE AND WEEP,
I AM NOT THERE I DO NOT SLEEP,
I AM A THOUSAND WINDS THAT BLOW,
I AM A DIAMOND GLINT OF SNOW,
I AM SUNLIGHT ON RIPENED GRAIN,
I AM THE GENTLE AUTUMN RAIN,
WHEN YOU AWAKE IN THE MORNING HUSH,
I AM THE SWIFT UPLIFTING RUSH,
OF QUIET BIRDS IN CIRCLING FLIGHT,
I AM THE SOFT STARSHINE AT NIGHT.

DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE AND CRY,
I AM NOT THERE I DID NOT DIE..........

FROM THE HILLS, FROM THE LAKE, FROM THE SKIES
ALL IS WELL, SAFELY REST

GO TO SLEEP, PEACEFUL SLEEP
MAY THE SOLIDER OR SAILOR, GOD KEEP
ON THE LAND OR THE DEEP
SAFE IN SLEEP

LOVE, GOOD NIGHT
MUST THOU GO,
WHEN THE DAY AND THE NIGHT NEED SO?
ALL IS WELL. SPEEDETH ALL
TO THEIR REST

FADES THE LIGHT
AND AFAR
GOETH DAY, AND THE STARES SHINETH BRIGHT,
FARE THEE WELL, DAY IS GONE, NIGHT IS ON

THANKS AND PRAISE
FOR OUR DAYS
"NEATH THE SUN, NEATH THE STARES, NEATH THE SKY,
GOD IS HIGH"

It still brings a smile to my face when I think of Pat hitting an outside shot in basketball and saying "Money"!...You are missed!

April 5, 2004

I never met Trooper Bartram, but I went to his funeral. I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of respect and affection displayed not only by law enforcement, but by the public. Schools were emptied as their students lined the road with signs saying, "We'll miss you, Trooper Pat." Businesses also had signs reflecting those same sentiments. Surely, this Trooper must have been an exceptional person as well as a fine officer.
Rest easy, Trooper Pat, you will never be forgotten.

Besides Pat being a Law Enforcement Officer (Warrior and Hero), he was also a martial artist. In law enforcement, martial arts, and life he is such a great man, hero, family man, friend, and example for us all to follow. He did his job with knowledge, great enthusiasm, and passion. In all he is and all he was, he is a good man who is missed by all of us who knew him. I think of him a lot and pray that he is a Guardian Angel to all of us who work hard to Protect and Serve. Pat, although I didn't know you, Dan Starnes talked about you and your brother often. I am Dan's wife of 25 1/2 years. Dan was killed in the line of duty on July 10, 2001. You and Dan together again is a peaceful thought. God Bless those who made a difference in a lot of peoples lives in Morgan County. God Bless your twin; my oldest son that is an Indiana State Trooper and my youngest son is a second year VU student majoring in law enforcement.
Your an angel just hanging out with my hubby. Please contine to watch over us all.
