God gave us the strength
to bear it
And courage to fight the blow
What it has meant to lose you
God alone will never know

Missing you, Bruce.

After all of these years Bruce I just learned of your tragic death. This is such a shock to me. Bruce was a neighbor and high school friend in Chicago. I remember when he went into the Marines and worried so while he was gone, but lo and behold he came back to his family and friends. I also remember when he decided to go to Colorado and lost touch after that - life takes over. I am not at all surprised that he died a hero - he had the heart and spirit of an honorable hero, such a great friend to all. I am sincerely happy to know that he has a family and so many friends that love him so. My sympathies to his family, RIP Bruce and you will always be in my prayers. 2013

You and the H-Bug were only able to celebrate two birthdays together, your 47th and her 2nd. Every February 25th and 26th are bittersweet. Our daughter celebrated her 18th birthday today, and your dedicated and loving friends from Denver always remember her. She's a fine young lady, and you would be very proud of her many academic achievements. She really is a chip off the old block! Cheers!

"To remember is to honor. To honor is to value. What we value shapes who we become. Let us always remember our brother and never forget the sacrifice he made." DCSO Chaplain Tim Ralph

It's been 15 years since you were taken from us. You're my personal motivation for excelling at this job. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Thank you for your service to not only this country, but to those you protected by laying your life down for.

"Strange is our situation here upon earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to a divine purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing that we do know: That we are here for the sake of others...for the countless unknown souls with whose fate we are connected by a bond of sympathy. Many times a day, I realize how much my outer and inner life is built upon the labors of people, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received."
~~~Albert Einstein
Dear Bruce: We have missed you much over the past 15 years. We continue to love you in our hearts.
Officer VanderJagt,
We've never met, but we share the same last name. There's probably a good chance we're related somehow. I remember hearing about your story through the media, and later seeing the disgusting image in Time magazine with your name; my name; carved into the side of a dead pig. I was 17 at the time, and now at 32 I still think about it from time to time. I wanted to contact your family at the time and give my condolences, but I didn't know how at the time. I was on here looking for someone else, and remembered your name. Here you are.
To the VanderJagt family from the west coast VanderJagts, my condolences for your loss. It would have been nice to meet you Bruce,
Bruce
The last time I saw you, we were talking about our kids, and you told me how much you loved being a father. I will always cherish that memory, and remember the times we worked together. You are always in my prayers, and sadly missed.
It is hard to believe it has been. 14 years since this tradegy happened. I know you are watching over Anna and Hayely and I also know that you are so happy that the both of them are doing so well. I never had the honor to meet you but I had met Anna and Hayley and they made quite an impression on me and will always have a very special place in my heart. You will never be forgotten Bruce!! Dear Bruce,
Gone from our sight,
but never our memories.
Gone from our touch,
but never our hearts.
Sadly missed on the fourteenth anniversary of your passing.
You and Me by Dave Matthews
Wanna pack your bags, something small
Take what you need and we disappear
Without a trace, we'll be gone, gone
The moon and the stars can follow the car
and then when we get to the ocean
We gonna take a boat to the end of the world
All the way to the end of the world
Oh, and when the kids are old enough
We're gonna teach them to fly
You and me together, we could do anything, baby
You and me together, yes, yes
You and I, we're not tied to the ground
Not falling but rising like rolling around
Eyes closed above the rooftops
Eyes closed, we're gonna spin through the stars
Our arms wide as the sky
We gonna ride the blue all the way to the end of the world
To the end of the world
Oh, and when the kids are old enough
We're gonna teach them to fly
You and me together, we could do anything, baby
You and me together, yes, yes
We can always look back at what we did
All these memories of you and me, baby
But right now it's you and me forever girl
And you know that you and me, we could do anything
You and me together, we could do anything, baby
You and me together, yeah, yeah
Two of us together, we could do anything, baby
You and me together, yeah, yeah
Two of us together, yeah, yeah,
Two of us together, we could do anything, baby,
to reach the end of the world
We love you and miss you on the 14th anniversary of your passing.
