Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer II Mario Navidad, Jr.

God bless you and your family Officer Navidad and thank you for your service and sacrifice.

When my Academy class first hit the streets, this was the

first officer to be killed. It showed us how dangerous and

tricky the job could be. Someone would kill a cop in order

to steal twelve cans of beer and get away.

We should all

remember this when we approach any suspect for any

crime. Civilians should also note that this happens. They

might be more thoughtful when they criticize an officer

if they remember what happened to Ofcr. Navidad, coming

three days before the holiday of good will that bears his

name.

Rest in peace, partner. We remember you.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the fifteenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Dearest Meli,

I know your daddy loved you very much. He would be very proud of the young girl that you are. You are intelligent, strong, and kind. I can't take away your pain honey, though I wish I could. Please know you I am here for you always and that I love you very much.
Lots of Love,

I remember that day as if it was yesterday. Eventhough you were mortally wounded, you still fought valiantly engaging the suspect.

I met you an hour earlier as you walked through the Watch Commander's Office. You are a hero and live in eternal life with God.

Mario, I just finished giving roll call at Central PM Watch and brought up the circumstances of your murder. It seems only fitting as the anniversary date and Christmas are coming up soon.

We were transferred to Wilshire the same DP and worked the same hours. Truthfully, I find it hard for me not to break down when I talk about you, because you were the first officer to be killed that I actually worked with and knew.

I will never forget your sacrifice. I have a young son now and I cannot imagine the hurt and loss of your children.

Rest in peace and know that you serve as a hero to many.

I wish to pass on my sincere respect and wishes for you all. I have been a Police Officer in Sydney Australia for 19 years and have said good bye to several police colleagues as well. I commend you on your level of respect and remembrance towards fallen officers. Gone but never forgotten, loved ones will meet again, time is a companion that will reunite families one day, the passed have only moved to the next stage, they are not forever lost. Take heart and be proud of your strengths and your efforts. Kindest regards, Roland Chrystal, Senior Constable, New South Wales Police - Highway Patrol.

While getting on to this site Officer Navidad's photo popped up under the "Always Remembered" feature at the bottom of my screen. I was logging on to visit the page that belongs to my buddy, Officer Jason Campbell, EOW 4-14-07, Greenville, NC PD.

I began reading some of the posts and it became evident as to what a special police officer and family man you were. Your family and friends can take comfort in this. Take comfort in knowing what a well liked and respected person Mario was to so many others both on and off the job.

God bless your family officer Navidad. I know they are so very proud of you.

Mario, thinking of you as I usually do on this date. It's hard to believe that 11 years have past since that horrific day. I have told your story to many officers. This time of year must be hard for your family. It was nice to see a reflection left by you daughter.

Rest in Peace!

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
