Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper II Gregory Patton Fleenor

Greg,
Your humor and mischievous nature helped pull me through the 26 weeks we spent together during the 90th basic session. I remember the many evenings we spent during the “eat-release” program (dinner) and your rendition of Earl with the torque wrench when Sammy Kershaw played on the tv. Thank you for guiding me to graduation and for the wonderful memories along the way.
In 1997, I was blessed to meet Jessica and Romaine Cheney. Your memory lived on through them and once again, I felt blessed.
Thank you for your service, your friendship, and your protection as you watch over us mortals on earth.

Greg
Hey brother! I think of you often! I think of the stories especially the one where you waiting in the median getting set up for the night in your cruiser and you spilled that giant cup of HOT coffee in your lap! Jumping out of the cruiser, dancing around trying to get your pants away from your leg, which was getting burned up. Laughed so hard almost cried!

I miss ya brother!

Your missed everyday , but the sorrow has been replaced with laughter and great memories. Renee ran into Brittany and she is turned into a great young lady with a beautiful daughter. You would be so proud of them .
Andrew turns 20 this month and every time he tells somebody his middle name I think of you . I miss you and look forward to when we are united again !
Brother from another mother for sure

Greg --- remember my Marine brother from our days at the academy -- you were a good friend and outstanding trooper -- still think about you and remember fondly how you keep us sane during the long days at the academy. Semper Fi!

Well dad your birthday is coming up and the thought of you being 45 just blows my mind. What blows my mind even more is you were only 30 when you left us here on earth and now that Im 25 i realize that 30 really isnt as old as I thought it was back then when I was only 10. lol. Realizing just how young you really were when you left has really been hitting me hard this yr. Mom actually brought it to my attention and now I just cannot stop thinking about the fact that Im almost as old as you were when you passed. I love you more then anything and wish you were here on earth with us. Youve got a beautiful little 3 yr old granddaughter who knows her papaw is in heaven with jesus watching over her. She looks at pictures of you and I took her to your site to put flowers on it. She cried and said she wanted to see her papaw...I explained she would someday but that you were with Jesus and that you were keeping her safe just like you kept everyone safe when you were on duty.

I love you so much and couldnt be more proud to call you my father. Take care up there and ill see ya someday.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

On this the anniversary of your passing, we pause to remember. Rest in peace Trooper Fleenor job well done, you may be gone but know you will never be forgotten.

No amount of words from any of us can ease your grief and suffering at the lost of your Father, But remain strong in your faith and know god as a plan for us all. Take comforted in knowing you will see Greg again as we walk the streets of heaven. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. Your dad was and is still a hero today.

I can't believe that it's been 10 years. I vividly remember that day, walking into roll call and hearing what happened, then driving to my friend Dave's house to try to console him...he was the Deputy who was right behind you that night.
The funeral was difficult. I had made it 9 years in this business and never had to experience a loss like this, although there were more to come. I think it might have taken awhile to straighten up the Holiday Inn in Bristol we stayed at...we were all up pretty late that night and you know how it is when you get that many cops in one place.
Much has changed. I left the county and came back to RPD. Dakota's is gone...the county has grown alot.
Just wanted to let you and your family know that there are alot of us that have not forgotten. RIP buddy.

Greg,

We sure do miss that beautiful, hearty laughter of yours!! When I left Henrico PD to work for the courts, I got to hear even more stories of your craziness, like when you'd come to my work & yell out my childhood nickname... Miss you more & more all the time. Hope you're keeping an eye out for Jessica!!

Brittany, you're dad loved you more than life itself!! I don't think he could love or cherish anything more. I know he's been with you every step of your life since he's been in heaven and how proud he must be. Be safe!!

To all of those who had the chance to meet my father knew what kind of man he was. For me he was more then a trooper, he was my daddy. I miss him more and more everyday and I cry more every year. I know he was there on my 16th birthday to watch me drive my first car by myself, and I know he was there on my graduation day, but what I dont know is what the look on his face looked like. I wish he could have been there to watch those two special moments plus many others in person. DADDY I MISS YOU AND YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART.
LOVE
BEEZER your daughter Brittany

REST IN PEACE DADDY
