Reflections for Patrolman Anthony R. Samfay

Thinking about you Tony!

Police Officer Tony Samfay,

When you made your decision to enter law enforcement you became blessed:

For the Lord said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." Matthew 5:9 ESV

When you made that traffic stop on Thursday October 17, 1996, you answered God's call to serve:

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." Isaiah 6:8 ESV

As a result, you were shot and sacrificed your life so that others might live and be protected:

And the Lord said, "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 ESV

I, along with your family, friends and comrades, will mourn your sacrifice and loss in the line of duty:

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5:4 ESV

Now go! Rise up! And do battle against evil as an angel for the Lord!

Hard to believe it has been 17 years since that tragic day you were taken from us. You were a great man and officer. Though we only knew each other a short time, we had some good times on the pd. Tony, we will never forget you. RIP bro and keep watching over us.
May your memory be eternal.

Here it is, Thursday October 17th... I pulled into the parking lot of the station this morning and felt like something was on my mind. Then I remembered, it was you. Sixteen Octobers later, we'll still "never forget".

It's been almost 15 years since you were taken away. The pain remains, but we find a way to go to work each day and try to make a difference. The politicians can play games and change the laws that are intended to punish those who commit such heinous crimes. We cannot change the laws our job is to enforce the laws. Those of us who are left will carry on and will continue to "run towards the gunfire". God bless you Tony and your family.
