I can't help but think about all the wonderful things in life that were robbed from you. Having a family, a long, successful career, just living. I wanted you to know you are my guardian angel. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you.....

July 28, 2006

Troy, you were a special man. I will always remember you and try not to think about how you died, but how you lived. You are missed...

How shocking and senseless. Rest easy - justice was served - but it still isn't right.

Troy,
Words do not convey the anger and saddness of your loss. I pray for you every day and I pray for your family.

Troy, Your parents are in good hands and miss you very much. They still proudly display you’re awards. I see them on a regular basis and love them dearly. Your friends at Honolulu PD and the community have also not forgotten them.

Your death was pointless and every time we go out on an operation I always think of you. I will continue to take away their money and drugs and send them to jail in your honor.

Thanks for being the person that you were.

Troy: You were killed while I was attending the police academy at Ft. Ruger. Yours was the first police funeral I attended, but regrattably, not the last. Although I never met you, I feel as though I've known you. You are a hero and your death was not in vain. I sometimes use your story to emphasize officer safety with my newer officers (brutality and evilness of criminals). More importantly, your legacy lives on in the amazing Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run. God bless you my brother.

Officer Barboza I remember seeing the news report on your death and the tearful eulogy left by your partner who said he grew to know you and love you.

I hope to one day follow in your footsteps by becoming a member of the Honolulu Police Department.

May you rest in peace and fly with the angels.

Troy, it tears at my heart each time I am reminded of the senselessness of your death. You aren't forgotten brother. Your memory lives on in the Troy Barboza torch run for Special Olympics. You can be sure I will be taking part. I did the run last year and was delighted to see your parents there to start the run. Warm aloha.

Troy...I was leaving a reflection for another HPD officer when I saw your name. It appears I am the first person from HPD to leave a reflection for you only because I am sure others have not scrolled back far enough to see your name. Your death shook the souls of all of us in HPD. It was the first of its nature where an officer was intentionally hunted down and murdered in his residence. It was one of the few times I had seen officers openly crying at the station when the news came in about your death. You were so young, so dedicated and a skilled investigator. In your honor, a Troy Barboza Run was created to draw attention to the Special Olympics which you were so dedicated to. Each year Law Enforcement Officers from all over gather and run in your honor to celebrate your life and the dedication you had for both the Department and Special Olympics. Rest in peace my friend, you are missed, but not forgotten. Aloha

Officer Barboza,

I participated in the 1997 Law Enforcement run that is dedicated in your name while I was in Hawaii. I had the opportunity to meet your parents, who were grateful that we all showed up to run. It was the least we could do to show appreciation for the ultimate sacrifice that you made. I still have the shirt from that run, I wear it proudly. Your memory carries on.
