I served with Tom for three years before moving away. Tom was a fare and honest man who I had great respect for. I can still here his voice when I called him on the radio, he would respond "go head". I miss you Tom.

Tom and I were neighbors and good friends. He was funny and sweet and I just wrote a book called 'Of Blood and Water' about a sheriff's department investigating a crime spree. It was only natural to dedicate it to my childhood friend, my dear buddy, my pal who I watched cartoons with as a teenager. I miss you, Tom. God bless your family. Drive fast, my friend.

The anniversary of the death of one of best Men I ever knew is around the corner. Sixteen years is a long time, and your memories stay with me, Often I drive down the road and think of you, your beautiful eyes, and that smile that would melt anyone. You will never know how you touched my life and made me a better person. And I thank you for this. I will always treasure all the pranks, phone calls and just checking to make sure I am ok. You are greatly missed. And will always be in my heart...

Tom,I think of you each time I leave my drive, I can see you standing in you uniform so handsome, so proud.,leaning on the fence as I walked toward you. You stopped to say good by . You were on your way to work and I was leaving to go back to Dickinson. It was that following week I got the call from Treasa . We LOVE you Tom. We were proud to have you in our family. Tom,
Can't believe it has almost been 15 years? Wow! Where has the time gone? I think of you EVERYTIME I call a pursuit, EVERYTIME I dispatch someone to a Disturbance, EVERYTIME I have an Officer out on Traffic, EVERYTIME I say "Welfare Check" and EVERYTIME another agency grieves the loss of a Fellow Officer. EVERYTIME is a big word but we lost a BIG Man when Gibby took you from us. You put up such a fight because I was there from beginning to end of this tragedy. I want EVERYONE to know that I would not wish this on anyone! Your 'Family' misses you dearly. NO ONE will be able to use 513 and if they try...they might get a reply but only one person will forever be etched in this Memory as 513! You changed this family forever! Love You Tom Sitton 513! You should know that you have some amazing girls here! Might be a little bit bigger but Teresa, Ashley, and Amanda will forever live in our Heart next to You! God Speed! 05/19/2011

It has been almost 15 years now since you were taken from us. I know you watch over us each and every day and at times I can feel you right next to me. My boys are so proud of their Uncle Tom and I am too! Lance wants to be a police officer just like you. I think he may be a little like you, so brave and stubborn, but so kind and gentle. He never has met you but knows who you are, we talk about you all the time. Chris will be 14 years old this year and he is so full of happiness and is going to be a wonderful man. Lance will be 9 this year and he is my little fire ball, full of energy and life, always making us smile. But you already know all of this, we may not see you but I know you see us.
We have your picture hanging at our front door, people always ask "Who is that in the picture?" and I say "The bravest man there ever was."
We miss you terribly and I can't wait to see you again. Thank you for looking after us. We love you Uncle Tom.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 13th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I hold your family in my heart's embrace today and pray for their solace.

I knew Tom from my stint as a reporter at the local newspaper, The Daily Sentinel. I had been in Nacogdoches years before when I went to college and worked as a firefighter for the city. I always found Tom to be a very pleasant fellow and as a reporter I was so fortunate to know someone such as him who was that mellow and who could give me reliable information during whatever kind of mess was going on. The last time I saw Tom, I was in the local ER thinking I was having a heart attack. (I wasn't) He was there with a prisoner who had some kind of thing or other. Tom came over and asked about me and gave me encouragement. He was a terrific fellow. Our society is so much more the poorer not having a law enforcement officer and human being the caliber of Tom Sitton.

It's so hard to believe 12 years have come and gone since you've been gone. I remember riding with you in your squad car one night when I was probably 12 or so on our way to your house so I could spend the night. I think it was your soul purpose in life that night to scare the hell out of me, just to be funny! Well Uncle Tom, mission accomplished! I remember when you and Aunt Treasa came to Austin to visit for Christmas, before the girls were born, and you didn't have a stocking, so you hung up your holy, stinky, worn out sock on our wall. If I remember correctly, Santa had the guts to touch that sock and left you something in there... I still have the ring you and Aunt T gave me that year for Christmas in my jewelry box and will keep it forever.

I have a little girl now- she's 4, Amaya Camille is her name. I'm sure you've visited her often. We have your picture hanging by the front door and I know you watch over and protect us. What do you know- my boyfriend is getting ready to start school so he can become a police officer. You would have loved him.

I love you and miss you very much!

Love,
Molly

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I never knew of Sgt. Sitton until I joined the Explorers sometime back. Through the explorers I met is wife Mrs. Sitton who was an advisor. Through the things she would tell about him drew us all to her and the memory she held of him. The things I have heard of Sgt. Sitton inspired me to be where I am now. My prayers are with you and your family Sgt. Sitton.
