Reflections for Police Officer Daniel T. Fraembs

Officer Frambs, as an Explorer I have had the opportunity to learn of your dedication and commitment you have put into being a peace officer. You have inspired so many people. Tomorrow I will be attending a CAPOA scholarship banquet where you are still providing assistance to others. I just want to say thank you for your contribution to various communities.

Officer Fraembs,

You are no doubt quite proud of your sister, and all of the help she has provided to other survivors.

Your memories and your legacy are with her every single day, and every single day she feels your loss.
Still.

She has been a quiet inspiration to many.

RIP, 27.

I first met Dan in 1985, we trained and worked together for an asset protection team, made up of former and active police, military, federal, and state personel. Dan was one of the first Martial Arts instructors for the company, witch then numberd a few hundred, today they number 3000+ Dan's expertise lives on through passed on knowledge and skills. We worked hard-line union strikes in Kentucky,West Virginia,Mich,Arizona. After leaving A.P.T. together we worked private security details, until Dan joined the Orang County Sheriffs Department. In closing, my fondest memories were when we would talk about our time in the Marine Corps, Dan in Beirut,Lebanon, and I in Viet Nam. Thanks for being my friend. Semper Fi.

I first heard of Officer Fraembs today in a DOJ Electronic Surveillance class. It was the first time I personally heard of this tragedy. The instructor from LASO briefed the entire class (approximately 100 students) on Officer Fraembs sacrifice. He will not be forgotten.

To my Bro Daniel: There were many nights on grave yard shift, that I would just drive by the location that you made the ultimate sacrifice. I would just park there on Humane Way, and think about the night of this terrible incident. I remember my pager going off that saturday night, and the sound of the watch commanders voice on the phone. As I responded to the scene with my dog, reality hit me square in the face. My friend was gone because a career criminal had taken his life. I remember the tuesday before you gave your life. We had fun at your house training with doug and the guys. As I looked around the crime scene, trying to figure how we were going to search such a large area with our dogs.I stood there stunned, and angered. A criminal had just killed my friend, and now I had to go search for this menace to society. Justice has been served.I want to thank all those agencies who assisted with us that terrible night. Thank you Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department for your help in this criminal Investigation which resulted in a "DEATH PENALTY" Conviction. To all my friends at Pomona P.D please be careful. We will always miss you Danny, Semper Fi Bro

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I am so very sad and sickened by these stories. I was invited to the Officer Daniel T. Fraembs Memorial motorcycle ride, and I had no idea who he was. I decided to do some research on this man and find a reason why my attending this memorial ride is important. Reading about Officer Fraembs story breaks my heart, but I guess a stranger like me who reads his story and goes on to remember him even though our paths have never crossed, is tribute enough for his memory. I am sure that Officer Fraembs is missed very much and I am deeply saddened by the thought of what happened to him. To Officer Fraembs friends and family, I cannot express my sorrow and pain to you other than to tell you that I will be at the motorcycle ride and candle light vigil and I will honor his memory. Thank you for the opportunity.

Dan,
Years have gone by since you were taken away from us, but I and the people you that had the privilege to work with you have not forgotten. I still remember the week before the you were taken away when I ran into you at a local restaurant. I sat there with you and told you about how patrol was going for me. Thank you for that special moment in time. I guess God gave me a chance to say good-bye to a very special person. You will always be in my prayers.

I just re-read your story in "True Blue" as told by your friend and partner. It never ceases to amaze me how much true evil there is out there in the world that we see on a daily basis. I am glad to know that you are in a better place now, Dan. I hope you are keeping an eye on those who loved you, your impact as an Officer and a friend is obviously still felt on a profound level. God Bless You.

Danny and I worked together at Orange Co. Sheriff's Dept. and I am living proof that this man was the ultimate warrior. Danny excelled in martial arts and there is no doubt in my mind this man was and still is the baddest person I have ever met anywhere in my 19 years as a police officer. He would never show it, and although his personality was mild mannered, this is the one guy you wanted if you went into battle. I like everyone else that moved on from the Sheriff's Dept. was shocked and saddened about his death. RIP Danny and you will not be forgotten by me.

Dan, it was a great pleasure to know you and you will never be forgotten. We worked together for five years at the Sheriff's Department...you took me under your wing when I first came on. We trained in martial arts together...I have never known a fiercer warrior! Rickson said you were a lion in a mouse's body. Your soul lives on...and thank you for the short time we had. Rest easy my friend.

Dan, I was shocked when I learned of your death, it was another eye-opened that we are all vulnerable. We always said that not even a spider could sneak up on you. I am sorry you left us so soon, but I am comforted knowing we have you as the best angel possible looking out for us.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer. Tonight, May 11, 2003 we dedicated the shift to the memory of P.O. Daniel Fraembs who died on this date 7 years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Fraembs' sacrifice will never be forgotten.
