Reflections for Police Officer Patrick Michael Prohm

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Uncle Pat:
I never knew this existed. I think it is wonderful! I just want you to know that there is not a day that goes by that I dont think of you. Your picture will always be hung in my house. I am proud of you and the service you gave to your city. I will always have the memories of going to the batting cages with you, and playing catch in the yard.

I love you!

I never knew you, but your still a comrade to me. I know that you are in many hearts till this day, a lot of people don't know of this page. You are with another comrade of mine, taken in the line of duty in 2003. I just want people who read this know, I know your pain. I know the void, it will become easier. Never forgotten thou, NEVER FORGOTTEN!

Uncle Pat, I was very young when you passed away but I remember you saved me when you thought I was drowning. It was pretty funny (you had all your clothes on). I love and miss you very much. Your Nephew.

I love you

Patrick, you were a sharp looking troop, and I'm sure a quality individual, both personally and professionally. I honor you, your name, your memory and mostly, for the ultimate sacrifice you made protecting all of us. With brotherly love and respect, Jim Crotty (Former Richmond, VA Police Officer).

I remeber when this happend....My uncle was Pat's supervising officer. He told me the story and it is still with me to today. Every time I vist my uncle at work I see Pat's picture on the wall & think about him & wonder what he would be doing at that moment if he was still with us. I never knew Pat but my uncle told me he was a good cop. Detriot may be a bad city but the Detriot Police do their best & some give it all like Pat.

We all are thinking of you still, Pat. We lost another one in Hazel Park. You probably already met her though. Show her around and tell her we all said thank you.
