I attended elementary school with your son. I remember your death and the picture that George drew of you afterwards. I think of all this every time I go by the memorial to fallen officers outside Baton Rouge City Hall. Your sacrifice and the loss to your family stays alive.

My mom was a crossing guard back in the 60's. She still talks about how nice Lt Bannister was. She said she almost got ran over by someone running a red light. After that, he would be there everyday . My mom is still alive and may have other stories if you'd like to hear them.

Lt Bannister used to bounce me on his knee while I was a child. He used to come to our house all the time because my dad, James Baumann was an officer too. He was very kind and humorous. I was 9 when he passed. I still remember him.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 46th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace today. Thanks to your family for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Rest In Peace.

God didn’t promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain; but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and light for the way.
