Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Tony Yanniello

Another year has gone by. I feel so sad to not have had the opportunity to share my beautiful children with you; my wonderful husband; to joke and giggle with you. I love you and miss you dearly. Rest in peace and know you will never be forgotten.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 25th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace.

To your family: I understand the meaning of lives forever altered and know that when you lose someone so precious to you that the pain never goes away...the pain and the pride is forever. I pray for your solace.

Dear Tony,
You are remembered everyday! When Tom puts on his uniform I think of you. I pray that he will be home with us to live, laugh, love and remember how very special you are. In a sense I believe you live on in him and he tries to be the best that he can be in honor of you. Thank you for being such a great brother and roll model to him. You are truly remembered!

Deputy Tony Yanniello,

I work with your brother Tom here in Plano. Tom and I have a lot in common, we both drive the Charger, and we both love the Red Sox.

I did not learn that Tom had lost a brother in the line of duty until after Wes died. If you are anything like your brother Tom, you are an awesome person. Tom carries a piece of you every day. And now that I know of you, I will also. Thank you for you service. I wish I'd known you.

Rest in Peace

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Tony, I never had the honor of meeting you but I have had the pleasure of leading your brother, Tom, as his sergeant. Tom has been a role model to me for what a dedicated husband, father, and police officer should be. Your legacy is in capable hands in the service your brother continues to provide to our community every day.

I know that the acorn does not fall far from the tree and it is my honor to be able to work with your brother to carry on the dedication you showed the world in your ultimate sacrafice.

Your sacrafice is inspiring to those of us who are able to continue to serve. I will honor you by serving your brother, his family, and our citizens as best I can.

I pray for you, your family, and your brother every day and ask that you give me the courage you displayed during your final tour of duty. I will also pray in Thanksgiving for the honor to serve our citizens along side of your brother, Thomas Yanniello.

Rest in Peace, Tony, we are trying to continue on where you left us.

Godspeed until we meet one day,
Your friend in Christ,

I can't believe that it is almost 20 years since my brother was taken from us. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him. I recently lost a close friend, also 33 years young, and all the painful memories of Tony's death came flooding back. No one will ever forget his kind ways; we will always remember him. I miss and love you. Your sister, Kathy

This deputy was my mother's second cousin. I will never forget the great things I've heard about Tony from other personnel from his agency. Although I work on the other side of the State of Florida, we are all one extended family. I'm sure that his family would like to know that in Tony's honor, I am riding in the Police Unity (bicycle) Tour, from North NJ to Washington, DC, in May of this year (2002). The purpose of the ride is to remember and honor those fellow officers killed in the line of duty. It is a fund raising event, with donations being made to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. When I arrive in Washington, I will locate Tony's name on the Memorial and bring a tracing home. I wish I could do more.
