Your heroism and service is honored today, the 25th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I read about your murder in the book Trooper Down and was dismayed and upset when I learned that your murderer has had his sentence reduced. I am sorry that your family had to go through a retrial again in 2007, only to be revictimized by a jury who I do not feel rendered justice.
I pray for solace for those who love and remember you for I know both their pain and pride are forever.

Rest In Peace

Although, Im no longer with the highway patrol,I often think about you Trooper Worley, your sacrafice will never be forgotten. The troopers who still wear the same badge as you did, can still feel your presence. As a former Halifax County trooper, I am connected to you through a long line of training. You, as training officer, instilled so many great and important tools into the troopers you trained to carry on with their day to day duties, in turn, these tools found their way to me. I just happened to be lucky enough to be apart of that bloodline of your training. Thank you Ray, for keeping me alive throughout my career. No one can ever take that and I owe it all to you. May your family left behind be blessed.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Wendy, I know you are already aware of what a hero you're father was. Please know that when the final judgement day comes for those cowardly scumbags, there will be no more lame excuses or sympathy by naive jurors! He knows all and they will be sentenced accordingly! God Bless Trooper Worley...thanks to his brave heart, we all sleep more secure tonight!

It always hurt me to learn of a fellow law enforcement official dying in the line-of-duty. It hurts a little more when he/she hails from where I call "home," - the Carolinas.

Ray was not only a good Trooper and a good friend, he was my training officer. I could not believe it when my wife called me about his death. It really hurt. I hope we meet again someday in a better place, God bless you and your family.

Thank you for remembering my father. This past summer(2006) my family and I were forced to go through a re-sentencing trial for the man that shot my father. I was disheartened when I witnessed the callousness his murder was treated with after 21 years. The jury in the trial felt more sympathy for the murderer than for the victim and some of the jurors even questioned his guilt. Again, thank you for honoring our fallen heroes and realizing that just because it didn't happen today, that the sacrifice was any less important or painful.

Today, I read in my local newspaper that one of the men responsible for your death has been removed from death row and given a life sentence!! This is a cryin shame that our tax dollars continue to allow this killer to live when he took from North Carolina something much more valuable than he will ever be. May you continue to rest in peace sir!!

I'm sorry to read about Trooper Worley's murder 18 years after it ocurred. May he forever rest in peace, and his family enjoy life in the best ways possible. I'm grateful for what he did for us.

It is dispicable that his cold blooded killer was removed from death row, I guess whoever is responsible for that doesn't have a friend or loved one who risks his or her life everyday for strangers. We have to protect those who protect us, and putting heartless copkillers behind bars only puts the lives of other officers at risk, correctional officers.

He will never be forgotten, and thank God we have other heroes like him that will carry on fighting the good fight.

GOD BLESS. REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER. GONE BUT NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN.

CHIEF RONNIE WATFORD-RETIRED
JEFFERSON POLICE DEPT,S.C.

I was a cadet in trooper basic school in Raleigh when we learned TPR Worley had been murdered. We lowered the State flag to half-staff. How sad. In an ironic twist of fate, one of the suspects was arrested by an off-duty trooper who saw him walking down the country road by the trooper's house.

The creatures who did such a vile act to this fine gentleman got a much better deal that he did. They are still alive, watching TV, lifting weights and getting medical care at taxpayer's expense.

He was a fine man and a good trooper. He is still missed in North Carolina today. Pray for his family, friends and colleagues.

He now patrols the highways of Heaven with St. Michael. God Blessand be safe.
